Babies: 3 - 6 Months

When do you plan to transition...

...from infant car seat to convertible car seat?  I know that most convertibles can actually be used from the newborn stage, but it's easier to have the infant car seat b/c you can carry LO in it.  I also know that infant seats have weight and height limits.  At this point, I'm not sure if DD will reach the weight or the height limit first on her infant seat.

Re: When do you plan to transition...

  • E's only 2 1/2 inches and 6 pounds away from the limits on her infant car seat so we're starting to look this weekend.  We'll probably transition when she actually hits the 29 inch limit.  I figure in the time it takes for her to grow that extra 2 1/2 inches she'll be much better at sitting by herself than she is now (she's already not that bad at it and prefers it rather than laying down) and I'll use my shopping cart/high chair cover for shopping and restaurants.  We already put her in the big part of her stroller and if I'm just going in somewhere quick, I can either strap her in the Bjorn or just hold her on my hip.

  • I am hoping J will be sitting by then! He may hit weight first (22lbs... he was over 16 a week ago) I have already realized he is too big to be carted around in the bucket, and only do so if he is sleeping... otherwise I try to wear him.

I bought our convertible on sale... so although we should get a second for our other vehicle we won't be in a mad rush when it is time to switch. I would say after he is sitting, but probably by 8 months?

  • We're going on vacation next week (driving), so we want to do it before then. For reference, my LO is about 15 pounds and nowhere near the height limit.
