My Mikey was a super clingy baby. He'd screech like a banshee whenever I went to the bathroom or the kitchen. Hated being held by anyone besides DH and I. Cried in my mom's arms both times he was left with her his first year.
Since he turned one he's a been super social and friendly. Loves chatting away with anyone and everyone and luurrrrrves his daily walks with Grandpa. Loved them, that is, until we got back from our trip. He doesn't cry, but pulls back and says, "mumumumum" if my dad tries to lead him away. When asked if he wants to go for a walk he says "no." He used to be all, "walka Grandpa!"
So did we unkowingly bring back some separation anxiety?
Re: Sep anxiety redux
Yeah, but probably just temporary. He misses you since you were away so he's going to cling to you a lot for the next few days. But once he realizes you're not going anywhere, I'm sure he'll let up a bit. LO is pretty much glued to me the whole time, except when he briefly wants to spend some time with daddy, or when he's at daycare 2 days a week. He's going through a mommy phase and I feel like I have a puppy on my heels all day. Sometimes it's a hassle but mostly, it's cute. And they're not going to be like that forever, so enjoy it while it lasts!
When my parents were here visiting, LO was super clingy, I think he thought we were going to leave him with them for good, poor thing. I mean, they love him but LO still prefers to be with mom and dad.
Too cute! I bet you miss hearing that. As nice as it is for Mikey to spend time with Grandpa, it's important Mommy alone time as well.
I hope he gets back into it. Time might be all he needs. And perserverance on Grandpa's part :-)
Thanks ladies! Yeah, I'm sure it's temporary and the result of us spending 2 weeks with DH and I being the only part of his life that remained the same.
As sweet as it is that he's more cuddly than usual, I know it's breaking my dad's heart. It's also cutting in on the 30 minutes I had to zone out/text/drink coffee that I get when they go on their walks
