Pedicure mistake

Have you used the callus remover at the nail salon since getting pregnant? I have done it twice and realized today it probably isn't safe ugh! should I mention it to my doc when I go for my appt this afternoon?

Re: Pedicure mistake

  • I've never heard this.... why isn't it safe? The place I go to takes it out of the sanitizer machine when you sit in the chair, so I know it's clean. Plus the place I go to is very careful about the massage when you are pregnant (heck, half the girls that work there are pregnant right now!)

  • It isn't safe whether or not you're pregnant. If you're talking about the razor some places use those are actual illegal in most states. You could mention it to your doctor but I'm not sure what he can do at this point, you just have to let that layer of skin grow back. Skin grows very quickly. I'd just keep your feet dry and clean.

I've never heard this either, and I got a mani/pedi last weekend.

They are careful about the foot massages, too. But I think she rubbed my hands and arms more than usual to make up for it, which was awesome!

  • Those things freak me out pregnant or not! Most places around here use a pummus stone and exfoliator. It tickles like crazy but much better than the metal skin peelers.

It depends on what she's talking about. This is safe:

They take off dead skin and is non invasive. Some of the pumice stones and especially the razors are invasive and people can get some serious infections and have even contracted flesh eating diseases.

  • I've never had anyone use something like that on me.  I just went for a pedi during lunch and it was great!

  • Not a razor or pumice stone it's a topical cream that they use The razors aren't allowed in Nj anymore

I just had it about a month ago and didn't know, I am not too concerned about it.  We are exposed to things daily that could potentially be dangerous, heck using a cell phone is linked to cancer, etc.

You could mention it to your doc, and when you do, let us know!  I had the topical cream with the "OPI like" thing pictured above last time I went.

Okay... In that case I have no idea why that wouldn't be safe. It is used and wiped off. I've been doing hair and nails since 2007 and I've never heard that.

  • Its nothing to call your doctor over... If they cut you, then perhaps... but really, I think you will survive...Confused

  • I think she is talking about the chemical stuff.  I haven't used it because I'm not sure what is in it.  If it is an acid or generally contains things and you don't know what they are, I would probably avoid it.  I wouldn't feel the need to call my doctor about it if I only did it twice.

As for the razor or metal pummice (the Opi thing in the pic) - I would just worry about cuts and whether everything (including the soak tub) were properly disinfected.  One of my worst cuts during a pedi was from a standard pumic stone.

yup that's what it was, i wasn't worried but as I think about it I get paranoid.
