Crib rail teether

DD has been gnawing on her crib rail if I don't get to her right away. I bought these: https://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=14857184 but they don't fit on the rails very well, and DD actually got one of them off (threw it on the floor) the day after I installed them.

Any advice? Do you use rail teethers? Product recommendations?

TIA!

Re: Crib rail teether

  • I only really needed on for Aiden's crib and got this one: https://www.amazon.com/Trend-Lab-Crib-Guard-Brown-Fleece/dp/B00208NUOI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1307640087&sr=8-4

he's never pulled it off so I'm pretty happy w/it

  • You could make a fleece one really cheaply too, and since fleece doesn't ravel, all you have to do is cut it to fit the crib.

Ditto this in white for my DDs. They did well with it and I liked that it protected the whole length of the crib rails.

  • We ordered the Trend Lab fleece ones also.  I have been happy with them.  The strings can go on the outside so that LO's can't get to them.  They are also padded which is great for when they start trying to stand up and bonk their heads!

  • We use these, and DS thinks it's hysterical to pull it off using his bottom teeth.  I'm not impressed.

  • BRU makes these cloth ones that you tie underneath (or outside the crib).  Don't have time for a link, but we used them for DD and they worked well.  Plus you can remove them without damaging the crib.

This is the one we had too and it would not really stay on for us either. I never saw the fleece ones before but they look good.

This is what I did.  I simply cut an old fleece blanket that I had and threaded a ribbon through it.  It took about 5-10 minutes and it was free :)

  • Another MoM I know took the bumpers from her bedding set, folded them in half, and tied them along the crib railing.  I think she sewed a couple more ties on it to keep it in place.

  • We bought two sets of the ones you have, and only ever installed one. They were off the crib by the end of the week. Great idea, poor execution, I guess. We just let them chew the rails and hoped they didn't ingest anything bad for them Embarrassed. They didn't do it for very long (though DD will sometimes *lick* her crib rail now when she's supposed to be napping... odd).

  • Definitely get the fabric kind or make your own. They sell fabric ones at buy buy baby, not sure about those fleece ones but we have the leachco ones from there & they're great.

Same here. Easy to clean and no ruining the cribs anymore. I love mine.

  • My dh is freaking MacGyver when it comes to fixing baby gear.

We got the rubber teething rail cover, the one that you heat with a hair dryer so it sets on so well.  Funny.  My son Kevin pulled it off in a day.

DH was not taking no for an answer.  He went into his shop and came back with a bag of clear cable/zip ties, like these:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable_tie

He wrapped them around the rail cover/rail in between every rail, and cut the ends off close.  Worked PERFECTLY.  Kevin loves teething on the rail, it's totally safe and secure and no one can get those ties loose without a knife.
