Hey lady! It is looking likely that due to flooding on the Missouri, we will be driving to your neck of the woods to get to STL. We have never gone to STL via DesMoines before. Have you ever gone south out of Des Moines on I-35? We never have so we have no idea what is there on it?

Hmmm, not much. lol! 

Unfortunately the drive down 35 South to Kansas City has mostly small towns. I do know that Bethany,MO (just over the IA/MO border, Exit 92)  has a decent little diner.  It's good, fast, and cheap. You can get in and get out - even hit up the gas station - and be back on the road. If you are looking for a chain restaurant (Applebee's, Panera, Etc.) you will have to stop in West Des Moines.

Our Zoo isn't too far off I35 but you might be disappointed after visiting the Omaha zoo.  lol! 

If you take the Mills Civic Pkwy exit in West Des Moines there are a lot of restaurants and a large mall area. (Jordan Creek TownCenter) They have a pond in the middle that is great for running around and burning off steam. There's applebees, Mc D's, Quiznos, PF changs, Bravo cuccina, Flemmings Steakhouse, Joe's Crab Shack, etc.

You might also page Eriness' here or on the Des Moines local board. Her family lives in KS and takes that way pretty often. She might have additional info.

Thanks. I-29 in northern Missouri is the same so i don't expect a lot. I will have to let u know when we get back.
