DS and I seem to be having a number of days lately where it would be easier if I had a packed lunch with us, rather than waiting until we get home after an activity to have lunch. Any ideas for toddler-friendly things that pack well and will stay good for a couple of hours, either at room temp or in an insulated lunch bag (or maybe a small cooler in the car)? Any recommendations for favorite lunch-packing containers would also be appreciated. (I suspect that past threads on daycare lunches would be useful here, but searching the board was, as usual, not particularly successful.)
Re: Portable lunch options?
For the days DD and I are running around I've done the below. I usually take a small lunch cooler with ice packs
Various sandwhiches: PB&J, cream cheese and fig puree, banana and PB panini, etc
Cheese and crackers
Fruit (dried is low mess), bananas, cut fresh fruit, etc.
Carrots, mixed veggies - DD will eat these cold
Cheese stix
Squeeze tube smoothies
I have trouble with this issue as well so I look forward to other's responses. As far as items that don't spoil, here are a few things we use:
Packaged fruit cups (peaches, pears, etc)
Packaged applesauce
Raisans
Crackers/Cheerios
Fruit or granola bars
