Sunscreen or solution for riding in stroller and protecting feet & legs?

Do you put sunscreen on your little one if taking them for a walk in the stroller?  I noticed my DS legs & feet and are out in the sun when in the stroller, the canopy covers the rest of him.  But I didnt think it was safe to put sunscreen on them when they are this little?

  • I always put socks on her when she's in the stroller. But ask your pedi about sunblock because there are some that are safe.

  • We have a very light blanket that we use to cover his legs.

  • If we are going to be in the direct sunlight for a while I do use sunblock as okayed by our pediatrician. If I am sure that the canopy will keep him covered I dress him in light clothing and use a light blanket to shield anything the canopy doesn't cover.
  • If I know I'm going to be out longer (i.e. more than just a 30 min walk) then I put CA baby on just the body parts that will be in the sun, and then I scrub it off with wet washcloths when we get home.  These were all our pedi's suggestion.

We have lightweight cotton/muslin blankets to use.
  • This is the bane of my existence.  If I used a blanket LO would kick it off in 1 second.  I just hope tan feet on babies is cute.  Kidding.  I don't know what to do either.  I just go in the morning, use a big white sunshade that I bought for $35 plus shipping b/c the ones at the store are navy & who wants dark for sun protection.  I would love to invent the solution & see myself on the cover of Forbes.
  • I have a snap-n-go so I use the car seat...I put the handle int he middle position so DS can look at his toys, and put the cover to the middle as well, I then hang my nursing cover over that (attach to the handle of the carseat) to shade his feet and legs but keep some air flowing.  I hold the other end of the nursing cover with my hand or hands on the stroller handle.  I "open" or "close" it depending on the direction of the sun.  I found this keeps him cooler since the carseat cover is not all the way down and there isn't a blanket on his feet.

If that wasn't working I would use sunblock on just th exposed parts.  My pedi says its better to have sunblock on than none if we are going to be in the sun even though he is so  young.

I bought a UV mesh screen that works for both strollers and playards.  It's great to shield the sun and protect LO from mosquitoes while also allowing air to circulate.  I also tuck a lightweight blanket over LO's legs, although she usually kicks it off.

  • Ask your pedi, but my understanding is sunblock is okay on little ones as opposed to sunscreen. Sunblock has the active ingredient titanium or zinc oxide. We use Johnson and Johnson baby sunblock, I found it at Wal Mart.

  • We have this - https://www.rainorshinekids.com/sun.php - it has ties so she can't kick it off and it's got UPF 30 protection.  It's super lightweight and breathable so she doesn't overheat either, even in Texas heat.
