  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 15+mo
    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? J has added a ton of new words lately and his feet come off the ground when he jumps!  1/2 the time or more he then falls when he comes down so I only let him practice this new trick on carpet or grass.  He also tries to "jump" off the stairs and chairs - eek!!
    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? n/a
    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? J has REALLY been fighting sleep at bedtime, ugh.
    (5) What's your opinion on circumcision? Will you/did you get it done or not? Who made the ultimate decision - you or DH?  I didn't see any reason to get it done, it's not a medical necessity.  DH and I both made the decision.
    (6) Do you plan to/did you use baby sign language? There are concerns it could delay speech - thoughts? J knows a few signs.  I bought a book and wish I would have done a few more, but since he goes to daycare it's not like we could have done them 24/7.  The ones he knows the best are meal related and used at his daycare.  J seems talkative, good vocab for his age.
    (7) Mealtimes -- what does your LO usually eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks? dairy free is difficult, it would be a lot easier to regularly offer cheese, yogurt, etc.  I don't have to be TOO strict about items with trace dairy or cooked dairy (i.e. baked items).  J is also allergic to soy.  His daycare provides food when he is there, if it's something he can't have then I send something else in.
Breakfast:fruit, cream of wheat, multigrain o cereal, TJ's dairy free pancakes, french toast with rice milk, eggs, cheese free omelets w/ whatever I have in the fridge - veggies, meat.
Lunch:chicken or egg salad sandwich, turkey sandwich (I bake a turkey breast for dinner and then thinly slice for lunch meat), chicken or black bean tortilla rollups (baked), left over dinnner items.  If I microwave some frozen green beans and add to the plate he will usually eat a few.
SnackTJ's various Hummus, crackers, fruit, TJ's carrot apple sauce pouches, fruit bar type things, TJ's punjab eggplant with naan strips
Dinner:pasta with marinara and turkey meatballs and/or eggplant, steak strips, bbq ribs (his fav), beans, veggies, rice, chicken lots of different ways, roast turkey, dairy free swedish meatballs with noodles, salmon (and other seafood when I get it fresh), flat bread "pizza" (sauce and toppings - no cheese).

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 10.5 month
    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm off work for the summer, so I feel great!  Henry finally said "mama" this past week, so that's awesome, too.  He's sooooo close to standing without support.  Actually, he's done it for up to 10 seconds, but I don't really count that since it's so short.  He loves to walk around the house with his push walker toy, and just in the past few days has figured out out to turn/steer it when he hits an obstacle.
    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? at 12 months
    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Temper tantrums have started.  :(   I thought I had a while for those, but I guess not.  He gets mad and balls his fists up and shakes them while growling/yelling.  It's almost comical, but I need to figure out how to curb that as best I can.
    (5) What's your opinion on circumcision? Will you/did you get it done or not? Who made the ultimate decision - you or DH?  It was a short discussion, we both agreed he'd be circumcised.  MH is Jewish, plus my grandfather had an recurring infection there when he was in his sixties and needed to get one then.  He said it was the most awful thing to have as an adult, and always told us kids to have ourboys circed as babies.
    (6) Do you plan to/did you use baby sign language? There are concerns it could delay speech - thoughts? We mostly just do "all done."  I honestly don't like the sign for "milk," so I stopped doing it after a few weeks.  I do sign "eat" occasionally, but not often.
    (7) Mealtimes -- what does your LO usually eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks? Henry gets food provided my daycare, but now that he's home with me 90% of the time (he still goes 2 mornings a week since we have to pay for it anyway to keep his spot, and I figure it's good for both of us - me to get a break t get things done, him to keep the continuity with his teachers and the routine there), here's some of the typical meals at our house for him:
Breakfast:scrambled eggs, wheat toast, and fruitpancakes and fruit or yogurtoatmeal and fruit or yogurt  Lunch:pasta with veggiesnitrate-free turkey slices and avocado teensie-weensie cheese raviolis (just discovered these in the frozen section of WF....LOVE them!)toast with goat cheese spread or hummus(all of the above usually with fruit for dessert) Snackcrackers (Annie's whole wheat, graham, or white cheddar bunnies) and fruit or yogurtDinner:pasta w/veggies and teensie-weensie turkey meatballsblack beans, rice, avocado, and tortilla stripschicken and mashed potatoes and a veggieany other random leftovers that we had the night before (we eat after he goes to bed) i.e. pulled pork sandwiches, burger and sweet potato wedges, etc.

  • 1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  R is 2 months and 6 days(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?Still dealing with this abscess situation.  Last Friday I got the abscess drained (when I was in the ER apparently they only drained the clogged milk duct and the infection came back) and it HURT!  I have been bandaged up with an open wound because it's STILL draining (not sure if it's milk still though).  Taking 2 antibiotics at the same time to clear this out, but it's finally starting to get better.  It hasn't come back, but I'm still very sore.  I think having it drained was the worse pain I have ever been through.   (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?R just had his first set of immunizations on Monday...I survived ;)  It was hard to see him in such pain, but today he is finally back to his old self.  This little boy is almost 12 pounds already!  It's amazing :) (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?We are moving back to AZ as MH accepted a job promotion.  He officially starts July 1st and right now we are trying to get the house ready to put on the market.  It's been hard trying to keep R occupied all while de-personalizing and fixing up this house.  Not even really fixing it, but just staging it so it looks good.  It's been stressful and exhausting and we are nowhere close to being done. (5) What's your opinion on circumcision? Will you/did you get it done or not? Who made the ultimate decision - you or DH? We got R circumcised and I had no opinion otherwise on it.  It was never really a topic of conversation in our house. (6) Do you plan to/did you use baby sign language? There are concerns it could delay speech - thoughts?I haven't even really thought about that.  We may do some things like "more" and things like that, but I'm not really going to focus on teaching him sign language.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 14 mos. (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? A cried for the first time at Gymboree when some kids took balls away from him. It was cute to see him start to understand what it all meant and to see how upset/sad it made him. We also started swim lessons, and now our bath times are reallllllllly long! (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? n/a (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? High-pitched sceaming. He's just learned how to do it and is experimenting a lot. (5) What's your opinion on circumcision? Will you/did you get it done or not? Who made the ultimate decision - you or DH?  Did not do it -- no medical need. We decided together, but I let DH make the final call. I was suprised, but happy with his choice, since I was personally supporting the trend away from it. (6) Do you plan to/did you use baby sign language? There are concerns it could delay speech - thoughts? I was not good at doing them consistently, so he never really picked them up. We've come up with our own signs, though, and I find those helpful for communication. For example, he shakes his hand from side to side a lot, which means a few things - "all done," "no more," "no, no," or "danger." I like that I can also use the sign and he'll repeat it back, like he's confirming that he understands. (7) Mealtimes -- what does your LO usually eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks? Breakfast: scrambled eggs, whole wheat pancakes with blueberries or poi, soft whole wheat bread, yogurt, cheese, papaya, bananas, apple sauce (mixed with plain yogurt, pumpkin puree, or poi) Snacks: He also loves the TJs carrot apple sauce and the HappyBaby spinach, mango and pear pouches. We also do freeze-dried fruit, Annie's organic bunnies, Kashi cereal fruit bars, and Cheerios or Kix. Bananas are also easy to eat on-the-go. Lunch/Dinner: When I've prepared a decent family meal, he'll share that --  grilled pork chops, veggie pastas, spaghetti, chili, bean soup (I keep his thick), pot roast, baked chicken and veggies, teriyaki turkey patties and rice. Otherwise, I try to have steamed veggies and some cooked protein (salmon, turkey, scrambled eggs, chicken-apple sausage, or tofu) on hand so he can have something healthy to eat. And in a pinch, I'll make him TJ's organic mac and cheese or mini cheese raviolis and add in carrots and broccoli. (8) What other questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? What are some of your favorite family activities to do with LO (including daddy)? Does LO still wake during the night? What do you do when that happens?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

Libby is 16 months and 3 weeks old and I am 8 weeks and 2 days PG.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Feeling tired and achy. My back has been |thisclose| to "going out" for the past three days. It's awful. I feel like my pelvis is really loose and have tons of RLP already! Stretching, rest, and alternating heat/ice is helping some, but sitting at a computer all day is not helping, I am sure. And then I get really stiff overnight. I hope this pain goes away soon. I feel like it's making me extra crabby and I hate that I cannot get up and go like normal and have to be very careful bending and picking up Libby, which sucks.

Libby is chattier than every and has started using two and three word sentences. She's consistently identifying letters now although still doesn't say the alphabet. If we say it though and pause, she fills in the correct letter. She's also consistently counting from 1-10 now, it's really cute. I catch her pointing to things in her books and counting outloud to herself..."1....2....3....4...." she's so pleased with herself when she does this! She's also starting to engage in imaginitive play with her dolls and stuffed animals. She pretends to swaddle and feed her baby dolls. It's absolutely adorable!

She's also FINALLY cut her bottom 1 year old molars. Thank goodness! She was in such pain these past couple of weeks. Now that they're through I hope they'll help cut the upper ones for her. Poor baby is not a good teether at all!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

First u/s tomorrow morning so see this baby. I am nervous and hope everything is okay. I will post an update tomorrow.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

Temper tantrums. Libby seems to be really emotional when she wakes up from naps. I think she might not be quite ready to "get up" right away, so I've asked J to let her transition over 10 minutes or so, just playing quietly in her crib, to see if that helps at bit.

    (5) What's your opinion on circumcision? Will you/did you get it done or not? Who made the ultimate decision - you or DH?

Before we knew that Libby was a girl we discussed this and decided together that any son of ours would be left intact. There's no medical reason to circumcize and it's incredibly painful and sometimes actual dangerous/life threatening to do it. We feel the same way now with this second child...if it's a boy, we will not circumcize. If, someday, he wants to do it, it'll be his decision solely.

    (6) Do you plan to/did you use baby sign language? There are concerns it could delay speech - thoughts?

We started using several signs starting around 5 weeks. As she became more verbal (she's an early talker for sure) we didn't add anymore since she can communicate with us using words now. But she still signs and says "more" "all done" "milk" "up" "bath" and "eat."

    (7) Mealtimes -- what does your LO usually eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks?

Since we did BLW from the start, she pretty much eats what we eat. She has her favorites but is not picky at all. We do organic as much as possible. We offer a 2-4 oz. of milk at every meal/snack too and she still nurses 3-4 times/day.

Some regulars in our rotation are:   BREAKFAST Scrambled Eggs with Toast and Fruit Cottage Cheese with Fruit Yogurt with Fruit Malt-o-Meal Oatmeal Whole grain muffin, pancakes or french toast with yogurt/cottage cheese and fruit   LUNCH Black Bean or Chicken Quesadilla with Veggies and/or Fruit Grilled cheese sandwich PBJ Leftovers from last night's dinner   SNACKS Fruit and cheese Veggies and cheese Crackers and PB or Hummus Cold cereal and milk   DINNER Grilled chicken with rice/pasta/quinoa/potato and a vegetable Turkey meatballs with BBQ sauce, veggies, sweet potato over "fries" Pasta stirfried with poultry/beef/fish and veggies Pasta with alfredo or marina sauce, veggies and poultry (chicken or turkey) Chili (Three Bean, Turkey) Enchiladas Lasagna Grilled chicken garden salad Chicken Curry over Rice   Libby loves all sorts of fruits and veggies. Her favorites are:   Berries Oranges (she LOVES the little mandarian cuties) Pinneapple Apples Prunes Peaches Apricots Pears   Tomatoes Sweet Potato Corn Carrot Mushrooms Asparagus Broccoli Spinach   I?ve yet to introduce her to melon, so we?ll try that soon. Sadly, she doesn?t like avocado at all. Right now, one of her favorite snacks is cherry tomatoes cut up with slices of a mozzarella cheese stick. She just gobbles it right up!    (8) What other questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing/trying for TTC success?
  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 13 months and...3?...weeks
    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm feeling...nervous. Stick out tongue Ben was away tonight, so I did bath time for the first time by myself in months and OMFG it's a lot harder now that they're trying to climb up on the drawer handles and stuff! I'm a little worried about doing this on my own for 2 months  when Ben starts his new job at the end of the month...Milestones...hmm. I talked about walking last week (week before?) didn't I?
    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 18 month checkup. Oh wait, and their appointment with the ear specialist is on the 30th.
    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Still the fighting. *le sigh*
    (5) What's your opinion on circumcision? Will you/did you get it done or not? Who made the ultimate decision - you or DH? I actually don't have a strong opinion one way or the other (I'm not all "all boys must be circumcised!" but I also tend to roll my eyes when people compare it to female circumcision since it's SO not the same thing). My sons are not circumcised, but it wasn't because of a strong bias against it. DH made the ultimate call - he was actually leaning toward it right up until they were born, but because it's not done in hospitals here (you have to go to a private surgeon), it would have been a big hassle and we just ended up not doing it.
    (6) Do you plan to/did you use baby sign language? There are concerns it could delay speech - thoughts? I thought about it, but honestly I have enough on my hands as it is. Smile
    (7) Mealtimes -- what does your LO usually eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks? Heh, this was my question because I feel like we're in a rut. Hopefully I can get some ideas!Breakfast - milk, fruit and then usually either eggs and toast or pancakes (with just a tiny bit of sugar in the batter and no syrup). They're not ready to do cereal by themselves with a spoon yet, but also don't want us to feed them anymore, so we're a bit limited. Sad I've tried making breakfast muffins (grated apple and carrot in them) but they weren't interested. Lunch - generally either dinner leftovers or some form of sandwich (they like tuna, grilled cheese, etc) and some fruit, plus either "salad" (chopped tomatoes and cucumber and other bits and pieces) or whatever veggies we have on hand. Oh, and some milk.
Dinner - just about anything! We eat a lot of Italian, Mexican and various curries, and they eat all of that, along with anything else we have on the menu. Lately they've been having sugar free, full fat yogurt for dessert.  Snacks - this is the single area where we tend to buy processed food for them. They like mini rice cakes, yogurt bars, fruit bars, etc.. They also often get cheese and fruit.
  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 19 mo (2) Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? new words, and he fell out of bed for the first time the other night - amazing after all the times I've left him "for a few minutes", this time I just walked over to my dresser and when I turned back, he was on the floor.  Eek!  But he was really still asleep and didn't wake up fully, so I don't think he remembers.  (3)  Next appointment date? the 2 yr checkup
    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?  bedtime again
    (5) What's your opinion on circumcision? Will you/did you get it done or not? Who made the ultimate decision - you or DH?  I left it up to DH, who said he didn't want him to look different than other kids and better to do it now than when he'll remember it.  (6) Do you plan to/did you use baby sign language? There are concerns it could delay speech - thoughts? I took a few sign language classes before we got married, just for fun and because I wanted to learn.  There is no real scientific evidence that it delays speech.  He knows some signs and he finds ways to communicate without them for what he doesn't know.
    (7) Mealtimes -- what does your LO usually eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks? dairy free is difficult for us too - we do soy milk, but the soy cheese was kinda gross, we do offer him sorbet instead of ice cream.  Breakfast: fruit, cereal - cheerios, special k, kix, etc, eggs, graham crackers, fruit bars, applesauce.
Lunch: leftover dinner stuff, otherwise, see snacks!  DH is home with him during the day and he won't eat much else for him. Snacks various crackers, goldfish, fruit, fruit snacks, bar type things, wagon wheels, cranberries, raisins, occasionally cookies or sorbet.
Dinner: pasta with marinara or plain, veggies (frozen peas are a big hit), rice, chicken lots of different ways, turkey, any kind of bread of bagel, pizza - i take the cheese off - is a favorite, and I make him some of those Gerber meals sometimes.

yes and there are actually some studies to show that babies who learned sign language developed speech/reading/writing skills earlier than kids that did not

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?she just turned 19 months yesterday!
    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?I don't think I posted about this last week but she had 2 major falls recently :( the first one she was walking towards the step stool in the bathroom to brush her teeth and tripped over her own feet and her face landed right on the edge of the stool and she got her first bloody nose!  the 2nd major fall was from the toilet! I was literally right.next.to.her but I turned my back for a few seconds to lay the diaper on the floor and while I had my back turned I guess she reached for something and fell off the toilet!!! it wouldn't have been that bad, but there was a board book on the floor that she fell against and it scraped a nice layer of skin off her face so it looked like she got a really bad carpet burn on her face.for milestones - she has started piecing 3 words together.  she has started getting better about the potty and the other day we had our first full day of NO WET DIAPERS! Party!!!(well, except her overnight diaper and nap time diaper but I know it can take longer for them to potty train for naps/night time) i would say that on average now she only has 1-2 wet diapers/day now - yay! I've been looking for months for trainers that would fit my tiny little girl and haven't had any luck so I'm finally going to suck it up and order custom made trainers for her. (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?2 yrs
    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?can't think of anything, so that must be good :)
    (5) What's your opinion on circumcision? Will you/did you get it done or not? Who made the ultimate decision - you or DH? we had a girl so we didn't have to decide :)I used to think that it should be done but DH was against it and the more and more I read about it, the more I feel like maybe it's not such a bad idea to leave them intact.   it seems to be a growing trend, too, so I think one day it will get to a point where parents don't have to feel like there will be stigma one way or the other for the boys in the locker room.
    (6) Do you plan to/did you use baby sign language? There are concerns it could delay speech - thoughts?yes i started with her early on with "milk," and then we followed with other signs like "all done," "more," "eat," "water," "please," and "thank you."  she was an early talker so it was hard for me to continue signing to her when she could just as easily talk but we still sign for some things.  her being able to sign for "milk" before she could talk was super helpful, though!
    (7) Mealtimes -- what does your LO usually eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks?ok, here is where i feel like my child is unlike any other! she doesn't have any typical breakfast, lunch, or dinner foods! she just eats whatever she wants, when she wants LOLshe doesn't like oatmeal even though i keep offering it to her.  last week she ate 2 spoonfuls and i thought that was great!  she does love pancakes but again, we eat that at any time of day.she used to love yogurt but doesn't want it anymore. same with cheese - at least whole cheese. she will eat cheese if it's hidden in something like a quesadilla or meatballs
I basically offer her everything at each meal and let her pick what she wants to eat.  she isn't picky overall, i.e. she will eat peas and broccoli etc but she is picky from meal to meal... i.e. even though she loves peas, she may not be in the mood for it on any given day.  so, I end up offering her a variety of veggies and proteins and carbs and see what she'll eat.  right now she LOVES peanut butter and goes through a 16 oz jar every 2 weeks... sometimes she licks it off the spoon and other times she uses her finger to wipe it off the spoon and then licks her finger!! i can't get her to eat it on crackers or anything. she also likes hummus.veggies we offer her - sweet potato, green beans, broccoli, peas, carrots, squash, cabbage, bell peppers
fruits we offer her (she LOVES fruit and will eat it at any meal) - mangoes and blueberries are the big ones right now...she also eats grapes, bananas, tomatoes, oranges, peaches, nectarines, apples (both raw and steamed), avocadoprotein we offer - I will do grilled chicken or chicken curry for her, ground beef in a homemade bolognese sauce, meatballs, roast beef or turkey deli meat; rosemary & garlic pork tenderloin; beans (black, pinto, kidney, lentils, garbanzo); salmon and white fish like halibut/tilapia - I like to sprinkle some seasonings from Penzey's on it and just broil it for her carbs - she eats a lot of saltines and whole wheat crackers; pretzels; plain rice cakes; sometimes pasta

Yes!  Thank you for adding that.  I forgot to write that.
