We're camping at New Brighton this weekend, and we're going to head into downtown Capitola during the day on Friday. What shouldn't we miss that day? (Food recs, ice cream, shops, etc) Thanks!
Have you been to Capitola? It's pretty small, so you can easily walk around the whole downtown. I love the ice-cream place (can't remember the name, but I think there is only one) that makes big waffle cones. Yumm. Capitola is one of my favorite places to just stroll around, and sit looking out at the beach. Enjoy!

Verve Coffe, Pink Godzilla and Betty Burger. All located next to each other on 41st ave (at the beach end) and not in Capitola Village. They are definitely worth finding though!
I haven't been to the village since the tsunami caused a bunch of damage to local businesses...I hope everything has recovered by now. When I have hung out there with the kids, one of my favorite things to do is get a slice from Pizza My Heart, sit on the benches overlooking the water and eat. It's inexpensive and fun.
If you forget to pack something, drive up to 41st Ave. At the corner of Capitola Rd and 41st there is a shopping center with a Whole Foods on one side of the road and across the street there is a mall with a Sears, Macy's, Kohl's, etc.
Re: What to see in Capitola?
Margaritaville!
The patio at Mr. Toots.
Walk the whole area, like pp said, it is pretty small.
Mr Toots Coffee (upstairs from Margaritaville)
Taffy shop in the Mercantile (center of village)
Arminda Winery--great little tasting room
Pizza My Heart--grab a slice and head for the bech
Zeldas--sit outside on the deck for lunch/brunch
Many great little boutiques to shop around --specialty pet store, specialty baby store.....to name a few...
Walk through the village and over the bridge to head out to the Pier--great views!
