They say it happens two to four weeks before labor if its your first, if its your second then not until you go into labor. Its does cause discomfort, sometimes sharp pains and frequent urination.
I've heard that the baby will usually drop at some point in the last four weeks of pregnancy. Some women drop and don't have their babies for weeks, while others drop after they're in labor. I disagree w/PP who said that w/your second you don't drop until you're in labor. Most of what I've read is the exact opposite - that dropping really late is most common with first pregnancies and not as common with subsequent ones.

I wish I could tell you. I *always* feel like something is about to drop out of my vagina. lol. Neither of my children ever had to "drop". I have carried them both very low the entire time.
Thanks.... I have doc appointment Thursday so I will ask him what is going on! I am only 32 week so hopefully he has not dropped because I am not quite ready yet.
I'm at 36 weeks (tomorrow) and my lil nugget hasn't dropped yet. I've heard that it doesn't always happen so early. Sometimes it happens actually during labor and you never really have any visible signs that the baby has "dropped," until D-Day. Everyone is different though...that goes with EVERYTHING. My baby hasn't appeared to have dropped yet but I still feel constant pressure on my bladder. Sometimes it's relieved when I sit down...but usually I feel like I could pee constantly. Good luck to you ladies!
I dropped at 34 weeks and you'll know when it feels like wrecking ball hit your crotch area.
Yep, me too. Baby just dropped within the past couple days. Three different friends on 3 separate occasions today asked me if he dropped. I know I could be close...or not! But it feels good to have some space again between my ribs and his feet, and a baby booty no longer occupies where my lungs are.
Over the past 4 or 5 days, I noticed a LOT of what felt like pounding on my cervix. Like he put his head right on top of it then started twisting. OUCHIE! Mostly felt it when I sat down.

I think I dropped around 37 weeks. Honestly, I didn't feel much different physically. I could tell by the way my clothes fit. I had to wear non-maternity pj pants really really low! That, and lots of people telling me they could see the difference.

I havent found anybody with my exact due date. My due date is September 2, 2011 also, with another little girl. Its cool to see someone be the exact day as me through the pregnancy.
Re: When does the baby usually drop?

It feels like you can finally breathe again & that the baby is going to fall right out of you. (if only it were that easy!) I was 38 weeks.
I noticed DD dropped in the morning when I woke up & water broke that evening.
