Two Under 2

Easier or harder once both are on 1 nap a day?

I'm hoping DD will transition to 1 nap around 12-13 months like DS did.  Am I crazy?  I hate being stuck home in the mornings for DD's nap and then having a super short window to do things until DS needs his nap.  Feels like our days revolve around naps :(

  • Easier.  Every now and again I wish I had that alone time with my older one back, but we get to do so many more fun things during the day now.

Thanks!  Good to know...and how old are yours now if you don't mind me asking?

  • Yup, I think it will be easier when they are both on table foods and one long afternoon nap.

  • I cannot WAIT for one nap a day!!  Seriously, we are housebound every day from about 10-5 because someone is either getting ready for a nap, napping, or waking up from a nap.  My son is a bit more flexible than my daughter, and she's even starting to drop her nap altogether (don't even get me started on that) but I long for the days of a single long nap!!

  • yes! DD started 1 nap earlier than DS. He was 12-13 months, she was 9-10 months. I was happy since it made life easier. though I did have it down well with two naps. DD would nap in the am, and I had time with DS, then I would push DS's nap until about 2 and DD went down at 3 for an hour or so. It worked ok, but eventually she wanted to nap her morning nap later and it screwed things up.

When she went to 1 nap I had a few weeks of her napping from 12-2 and him napping from 2-4 :(...BUT eventually they overlapped more and more. It was easier bc I felt like I could get out of the house!!! Life is easier now. I do make sure DD goes to bed about 30 mins before DS so I get some time alone with him though to make up for the daytime.

I know this is going to happen for my two in the next 3-4 months or so and I am not looking forward to it. LOL

  • 100x easier.  I "encouraged" (read: forced) DD to drop her morning nap around 9 months.  I was going crazy sitting home and being quiet all morning, and so was DS.  DD had a rough week of transition where she'd fall asleep in the car and then be really cranky until naptime, but after that it was fine.  They both nap 12-2 or 3, and we're all much happier now that we get out all morning!

  • I can't answer your question, b/c my LOs are younger than yours.

It's just funny to see what I might be wishing for down the road. I remember being so nervous that DS would drop to only one nap before DD was born or while she's still little. It's so much easier for me to function at home with two LOs when you factor in two naps. I feared that DD would nap 9-11 and 1-3 and DS would want to merge his old schedule and nap 11-1.

For now DS naps 9-11 and 2-4 (but I can push that to 3-5). 4 hours in the middle of the day is plenty of time for us to get out of the house. DD usually does 1 hour awake followed by 1.5-2 hours asleep. She can nap on the go though because she's still so young.

I never got this :(  My older one dropped her nap about that time :(

  • I very much encouraged dropping the morning nap early and DD#2 took to it pretty easily. I also moved DD#1's nap up earlier so it was an easier transition.

It made things soooo much easier.
