February 2011 Moms

I am so jealous/angry I could scream.

I see all these posts where lots of you ladies are like, 'Yeah, my LO is waking 2x a night now, it's awful.' My LO USED to wake only 2x a night, but now thanks to the 4MW she's up 4-5 times every night to eat. It's almost like she's a newborn again.

First her sleeping schedule was off because of going yo FL, but she adjusted to the time diff. after a week being there. But when we flew back, she had to adjust and then the 4MW kicked in! I've been without sleep for weeks and I am a ill-tempered, mean human being!

DH is getting the snip this Thursday, and I know he'll be using that as an excuse for weeks to come to not get up at night on the weekends to help with the baby. I don't reme, ber experiencing this with my other two children, and to be honest when I heard ladies on 3-6 talk about it, I was all "yeah right, they must be doing something wrong because my other two never did that!' I'm thinking now I was just lucky they never did that.

Sorry so long... I'm just so jealous of you ladies who are only getting up 1-2x a night. It's me, not you.

We just went through this with DD.  She was up 4-5 times a night for 2.5 weeks, then one night, she was up every 40 minutes after 1:30am.  It was horrific.  Now, thankfully, she seems to be averaging 1-2 again, which is still not where she was pre-4 month wakeful.  Hang in there, it will end/get better one day!

  • I am right there with you. My LO is finally over his colic (thank god), but he has still never slept longer than 5 hours in a row, and he is often up every 2-3 hours. He has also started this new thing where he stays awake after at least one of his night feedings for 1-3 hours. It totally sucks. I know he is overtired and I have read every sleep book and tip on the Internet to get him to sleep more and he just won't. I think things will be this way until he is ready for sleep training. After reading Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, I decided to try CIO on him... He isn't ready. He cried for two hours abc showed no signs of slowing down. So yeah, I hear you,

It's no joke, and I thought people were being dramatic when I read about it.  Then it happened to me, but just like everything else that comes with having a baby, you just deal with it and get through it and keep telling yourself things will get better.

I also thought people were overreacting about it, but seriously.... H is up sometimes up to 4 times a night. She used to go to bed at 7:30-8pm now at 11 and then up every 2-3 hours. Oh and she is teething at this same time so when she is up she is usually miserable. So Tiffany- I totally understand how you feel. And DH seems to have selective hearing when it comes to night time feedings.

  • I'm not sure if we hit the 4 month wakeful yet, because Audrey's never slept well overnight.  Usually she's up between 3-5 times a night, and that's just her normal.  She's never woken up fewer than 2 times.  Nevermind that the child won't take a bottle at night, so it's not like Daddy can take a shift.  I can't even be happy anymore for anyone who's baby is sleeping longer, and everyone who is now complaining about their baby waking up 2-3 times a night because of 4 month wakeful can kiss my tired a$$.  Last night she went to bed at 9, woke at midnight, 2, and 4.  She wouldn't go back to sleep after the 4 o'clock wake up until after 5.  I had a meeting at work this morning at 7, so I just got in the shower at that point.  I'm throwing myself a pity party, who wants to come?

HOLY CRAP your girl must be in cahoots with mine!! Mine woke up at nearly the same exact times- went to bed at 8:30, woke at 11:45, then 2:30, then 4:30, then woke at 6:45 permanently. Dead. Tired.

Do all babies go through 4 month wakeful, or just some babies?

We aren't there yet, but after all these posts, I am afraid!  :)

    This.

  • I am SO sorry Tiffany if I sparked your anger with my sleep post. I was just SO belated I had to share. I'm sure my day is coming. B will be 4 months tomorrow. I like you think alot, what is with everyone's babies, my first 2 were like cake walks. They were sttn by 6 weeks, never had any kind of cranky growth spurts, no 4m wakeful, and sttn every single night. Thank goodness I'm older with alittle more patience because although the last about 2 months B only gets up once, I still don't get much sleep so I totally understand how your feeling. Just keep saying over and over...this won't last forever, this won't last forever, this won't last forever.

  • BTW...flame me if you want but I put B down on his tummy to sleep. That's the same thing I did with the first 2. I didn't start it with LO until later because everyone got me so nervous. That wore off when he went from waking up twice a night, to once, then last night's miracle.

  • Momma, I'm not mad at you- I'm jealous of your god sleeper, and just angry that circumstance with this- my last child- makes sleep even harder. I cant be angry at my girl-pie, I'm just angry I'm not getting sleep. :(

My LO rolls to her belly in her sleep, and I let her stay there.

  • I am jealous of all of you! My LO has never woke up less than 3 times a night! I would LOVE even one night of decent sleep! On the plus side, maybe I won't even notice the 4 month wakeful.

  • DS is going threw this right now I do believe. He woke up a million times in the past couple nights. He breaks out of his swaddle and he HATES the escape proof swaddle. He screams his head off when we try it.

I stopped looking at the clock because I just get angry. H started a new job (YAY!) but he gets up really early for it so I am on permanent baby duty now. (BOO) I really liked getting the help. He gladly gets up when I ask him too though. This morning he must have felt bad for me for getting up 7 million times because he got up to re-nuk ds, I didn't even have to ask.

I can usually re-nuk him several times before he will wake himself fully. I think he is teething too. He rooting around like he is hungry on his fists, so I make a bottle and he won't eat it. He screams because he wants to chew. He is so impatient it's kinda funny. He frantically roots his fist or sophie. We gave him a chilled teether last night after he attacked my hand and he was in heaven!

Happy mommy to a sweet baby boy! CafeMom Tickers

  • I'm really hoping that DD does not go through this. DS never did and I was grateful that he was on;y waking once to eat. DD is awesome. she started STTN last month. I'm just going to knock on wood now.

  • Hi, jumping in to say you're not alone. My DS by now was sleeping at least 8 hour stretches, but DD has only done 6 hours a few times. I just finished about 3 weeks of sleep hell. She was either up many times a night or up twice but awake and crying for about an hour or two each time. As if a miracle happened, a few days ago she started going down without a fuss around 7:30pm, predictably wakes at midnight, 4am, then up for the day around 7am. Her naps have also been great. Around two hours of being awake she yawns, I then sing her a lullabye and put her in her crib with her ocean sounds and she's out for two hours twice a day. Although I would love for her to sleep the entire night, I'll take this deal. Good luck, and I keep reminding myself that they're only little but for a blink of an eye.

  • I'm so with you! J has been getting up every 1.5 - 2 hours all night long for the past 3 weeks, I'm so exhausted! Last night when he got up at 4:30 I just started to cry... this won't last forever... right?  RIGHT???
