Eczema's not new to us - I have a family history, and DD has it too.
DS's is on his face. We were at the pedi for his 4 month check up yesterday and he gave us a 0.2% hydro to use on it. I put it on last night, once he was swaddled (so he couldn't get at it).
The good news is that it knocked the rash right down. The bad news is that it did that only where the cream was applied. Since a lot of his eczema is right around his eyes, I left a wide margin around his eyes when applying the cream. But he looks so funny now - you can clearly see where the cream was applied.
Any tips? Will more than one application help to knock down the other areas, even if it's not applied directly?
Of course we do the free & clear everything, good cream, etc. so there's no irritant we can cut out.
Re: Eczema on face
I took DS#3 to a dermatologist because I couldn't seem to get his eczema under control. He suggested using CeraVe (over the counter lotion) head to toe twice a day for maintenance, then use fluticasone (RX) when he had flare ups.
This seems to work well but we have had two flares break through. For those, we had to use oral steroids to get them under control.
A friend suggested adding a second rinse to my laundry cycles using plain, white vinegar. She swears this has helped her little girl. I haven't tried it yet but I am going to. It's cheap and can't hurt right?
ETA: I asked our pedi the other day about using the Fluticasone on DS's eye lids and around his eyes and mouth. She said that it's not recommended but if it's the only thing that works for him you really don't have a choice.
My twins are 5! My baby is 3!
DS#2 - Allergic to Cashew, Pistachio, Kiwi
DS#3 - Allergic to Milk, Egg, Peanut, Tree Nuts and Sesame
We're also a Protopic house. I love that stuff. Usually it gets the ezcema calmed down over night for DD #1. We also have a strong steroid we use for really bad flare ups.
I second going to a dermatolgist. They are trained in skin issues, Pediatricians are not as knowledgeable as they are. Took us 2 months of trying different things with the Pedi and 3 days with the Derm to get it under control.
We're able to use the Aveeno Baby soaps and lotions (or the generic versions of it) and have the same flare ups as we did on Cerave/generics so we go with those. Our flare ups come from milk usually. I'm hoping she will grow out of this someday.
GL to you!
Thanks for all the recommendations!
By the end of the day yesterday, his face looked much better. This morning, the areas around his eyes had cleared up. He looks better now than he has in a month! So I slathered him up with Aquaphor and he should be good to go, hopefully!
My pedi rec'd Vanicream. Has anyone used that with any success? He's gone through eczema and food allergies with his own kids, so he's been a great resource with this stuff.
No, what is this?
