Pregnant after a Loss

WWYD?

Tomorrow I am supposed to be joining a group of my coworkers for a volunteer day - I signed up months ago. I was excited to go but now I find out we are going to be doing trail cleanup, and tomorrow is supposed to be really hot, muggy and its a wooded trail so it will be buggy. I have no idea if there is a bathroom nearby or what the deal is. I am nervous to go, besides light gardening I have been taking it easy since the spotting scare around 5 weeks. I'm about 7.5 weeks and while I'm sure it'll be fine I don't want to get out there and push it too much or get overheated (or get sick). I'm thinking I should opt out but I feel guilty for ditching my coworkers. Its usually a really fun day, but I just don't know... any opinions?

Oh and my boss is happy to keep me at work since I just got back from vacation so I do have an easy out...

Re: WWYD?

  • Is there some other task you could do to participate without the "full effect" of the heat and bugs?  Like sit at the registration table, sign people in and out, etc?

If you're not comfortable going, I say skip it.  Or, you could always see if there's another "job" for you at the volunteer site, like handing out water and snacks or something.  This way, you're not overworking yourself, but you're still there!
    Good luck!

I'm fairly sure you'd be fine with lots of water, and resting if you feel the need, but if it were me, I'd probably air on the side of caution and opt out. Especially if you have an easy out. Wink

  • Personally, I would just stay at work. I am pretty paranoid, so I doubt that's necessary, but I would avoid working outside in the heat. If you do go, just make sure to stay super hydrated...and hope there's a bathroom nearby!

  • That's a tough one to me.  I love the outdoors and would choose that any day over sitting in an office.  If you think you might be overdoing it though, maybe a quiet day in the office is just what the doctor would order.  Could you stay in the office and take an extra long lunch and eat at a patio somewhere?

Yeah - hot and muggy (or just plain hot) is never a good combo in my mind.  I'm totally an outdoor girl and we've been doing heaps of yard work on the weekends - but the heat really zaps me right now (even the low 80's).  I find that I have to park myself every 30 minutes or so to have some water and sit in the shade for a few minutes.  I swear I'm not normally a wilting violet, but these days I just can't take it.  If you've got an easy out, I'd definitely take it.

This!!! Even when we were gardening I had to take lots of breaks, I just get so hot really quickly and then it seems like forever to cool off (which is ridiculous b/c I'm cold every other time!). I might ask what the location is like, if its shaded and woodsy I might be ok. I really would rather be outside than at my desk but yeah if its full sun on a hot day not so much. I guess we'll be removing brush and hauling gravel... i'm not so much about the gravel but I think I could do some raking. Usually its not too bad... I'm just a nervous nelly about everything.

  • I think I would opt out, or see if you could do a registration table or something like that.  I wouldn't want to chance it in the heat.
