Cloth Diapering

Question about AIOs.

Hi there!

My SIL just found out she is pregnant (after 2 1/2 years and 1 round of IUI, so exciting) and has been thinking about CDing.  We do in my house (B.Gs 4.0) and she likes the idea.  She was thinking about AIOs, all I know about them is what they are.

Can anyone give me a little AIO knowledge?

What is the pricing like compared to pockets?

How many? What brands?

TIA.

Re: Question about AIOs.

  • I have about 30 from Bumgenius.  They are the organic elementals.  they are his trimmest diaper by far and the most fool proof for my husband to use at the beginning.  Now he's a pro:)

My only two issues with them are the prints are extremely broing and they take forever to dry.  Other than that I am a happy customer.

  • AIOs are probably the easiest choice out there since they are most like disposables.  So if her DH or parents or any caregiver are changing diapers, it seems to be the ones they find the easiest.  I adore AIOs.  The ones I specifically like are BG Elementals.  I would say the only downside to AIOs is that they do take a LONG time to dry.  But, I have enough to where I dry them in the dryer for a bit and then just hang them to dry when they are still slightly damp.  I've never had a leak with them.  I also love AI2s, which are similar to AIOs except that the soakers usually snap in so the dry time is alot faster.  Doodle Dypes and GM Ones are my favorites out of these but they are pretty hard to snag.  GL!

  • I don't use them (we use BG 4.0s also) but I think many of the companies who have pockets also make AIOs (BumGenius has an AIO for example). But she won't know what brand works best for her baby until the baby is here (some brands work better on some babies than others).  I have seen a lot of women recommend the Jullian Drawers diaper trial.  They send you a bunch of different diapers for a certain amount of money and you try them and then send them back at the end of that set time (60 days maybe????) and they refund your money minus $10.  You can keep/purchase amy you choose to.  Its a good one to try a variety without committing.

As for how many, AIOs you would need as many as you would of any other diaper because they have to be washed after each use.  How many depends on the age of the baby and how often they pee and how you are using them (for example are you ONLY using AIOs or are those yjsut your daycare diapers and at home she will use prefolds and covers).  My experience is they are more expensive than pocket diapers.

COngrats to you on becoming a new Auntie soon and to your SIL on her pregnancy.  We dealt with IF for a long time too.  I know she must be so excited (and scared!) about this little one!
