I am xp this from the IF board..
Hello Ladies! I was here back in 2008 when I was ttc #1. I thought I would re-introduce myself and I have a question as well..
Here is my background: I have PCOS, never had regular periods, i basically only got it a few times a year unless i was on BCP, and then it came like clockwork. I was never ovulating on my own.
When we were TTC our 1st, I went to the RE and clomid did nothing, we did injectibles and i overstimmed, so instead of IUI we did IVF w/ICSI and we were very lucky that we were successful on our first try, and have 17 more frozen embryos.
So fast forward, I started getting my period again around the time my daughter turned 1. at first it was coming randomly, but still more frequently then it ever had before. I have been tracking it, and the past 3-4 months, i have had a 33-36 day cycle, which as close to "normal" as I have ever been.
I have lost 30lbs since xmas and am working on maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise to help keep PCOS in check.
We want to start TTC #2, but we need to save $ if we are going to be doing the FET cycles because its not covered by our insurance.
Heres my question: am i nuts to have hope that i wont need to go through w/ FET because my periods have been coming more regularly? I still dont know if i am ovulating, and I have heard that the OPKs dont work well for women w/ pcos. for those who have PCOS and have been in my situation, were you able to get pg on your own after doing IF treatments in the past?
I guess it cant hurt to chart and at least give it a shot right? Damn PCOS makes this so difficult Im just concerned that if i ttc on my own and it doesnt work I will get depressed even though i know i shouldnt get my hopes up, and that will only make things that much harder... i should also add i have a history of anixety/OCD that I take zoloft for, so i tend to obsess over EVERYTHING and over analyze ever stupid little thing.
So thats me in a nutshell. I know there are plenty of other people dealing w/PCOS here, and I look forward to being able to give each other the support we need during this time!
Re: re-intro, ttc#2 and a question
I'm sort of the opposite. I was waiting for my IVF consult for #1 and got a surprise BFP (failed clomid and hyperstimmed on injects). I was having regular periods with Met but not without. (I have PCOS also)
After having DS I was having very regular periods with/without Met. I thought I'd easily get pregnant on my own since I did before and I was having regular periods. I've been TTC #2 since September 2009 with no luck. It appears IVF #1 is quickly approaching.
My point is that getting pregnant on your own is definitely possible but just may take time. Good luck.
TTC #2 with PCOS since September 2009

thank you, and good luck to you too.
I don't have PCOS but have PCOS like anovulation (according to my RE). Never had a single unmedicated cycle before giving birth to my son other than a few instances of spotting (never enough to be a period and never two in succession to be considered a "cycle", more like I spotted once at 16, once again after I first went off BCP to TTC, and once more after I lost my first (IVF) babies). After my son was born (also IVF) and I stopped nursing (around 9 mos.) I had a few very long/irregular cycles ranging from 45-80 days in length, and the last one, I was ready to go to my OB for provera (she'd said more than 60 days without a period and she wanted to see me) and it turned out I was pregnant. Even more shocking is that we also had a severe MFI diagnosis. So, it can happen. I wasn't any healthier or thinner (actually fatter and exercised less) than when we first started TTC and I never cycled then, so I attribute it 100% to pregnancy re-setting things, so to speak.
Best of luck! There are definitely a lot of women here who have gotten pregnant unassisted with #2 after a lot of treatment for #1, and I'm sure some have PCOS diagnoses. I hope it happens for you!
schmoodle, congrats on your pg! i remember you from my prior bumping days
its encouraging to hear success stories, so thank you for sharing.
