Talk to me about clothes

I'm trying to prepare for my twin girls and I need clothing help from you experienced twin mommas.

With DS, we used primarily sleep and plays/footed sleepers day and night and layered with onesies when it was colder.   We intend to do the same with the girls.  We aren't the cute, multi piece outfit types, and I doubt we'll be going out much anyways.

So, how many would recommend in each size?    Would 6 (3 per child) per day work, or would you recommend more?  I'm trying to think of this in terms of "per day," as I know we probably will get behind with laundry.  LOL.

  • I think 3 per day (per child) is plenty.  We rarely went through 2 per day, so that even gives you 1 extra.
  • We rarely went through more than 1 outfit a day for each baby.  Sometimes they'd stay in the same outfit for 2 days if they didn't spit up or poop through.  I actually found it easy to stay on top of the laundry because they slept so much at first.  I think we had about 16 footed sleepers (they were Nov babies) and that lasted us awhile.

  • 2 a day was enough for us. We never made 2 days in the same outfit, but maybe a day and a couple hrs the next am.

I think 3 per baby, per day is more than enough.  We usually had 2 per day (daytime outfit and PJs) but they lived in the footed sleepers at that age. I honestly don't remember how many we had but I'm guessing it was maybe 6-10?  I had a lot of gowns and I ended up hating them and hardly using any.

My favorite sleepers are the ones with zippers.  I didn't discover those until they were about 8 weeks old and it was like a lightbulb went off.  Walmart has some that are organic cotton and $5 each.

Thanks everyone.  I am shocked that some of your children didn't need changing everyday.  DS was a reflux baby (and now is a vomiter...sigh), so I can remember going through 4 outfits some days with him, even when using bibs.  I'm crossing my fingers for non-reflux babies this time around!

I actually picked up some of the Walmart sleepers this week.  They are on clearance for $4 at my Walmart, and they even had preemie sizes.

DD was refluxy, I just lowered my standards after awhile :)  At first, it would be like "oh, poor baby spit up, let's change EVERYTHING"  After a few days of that, it became "hm, a bit of barf, wipe it up and see if it dries".  She did need more frequent outfit changes than her brother, though, for sure.  I just stopped changing for every bit of spitup because if I had, I would have changed her 10 times a day.

(I hope this doesn't sound like I let my children sit in their own filth, I am just into spot cleaning if possible rather than a whole outfit change.  My kids are clean, I promise!)

I totally understand what you are saying.  I got to the point where I'd change DS only if his clothes were really wet.  Unfortunatly, that ended up being 3-4 times a day even with 6+ bibs.  I hate reflux!

  • I think we only had 8-10 newborn footed sleepers, but we do laundry every 2-3 days.  I loved the zipper sleepers when we had to undress them for every feeding, but I preferred snaps when we didn't have to take their clothes off all the time.  FWIW, I love the gowns for night time diaper changes.  I don't think we've ever gone through more than 2 outfits in a day, but no reflux here.
