Food Allergy

Yeah! I just discovered this board! (and intro)

Been a busy couple weeks, so I've been bumping from my cell.  Just discovered this board!

I am pregnant with my first.  Due November 2nd.

I worry about future food allergies with LO, since I have food allergies, and DH has environmental allergies.

As a baby, it was discovered I was allergic to milk and wheat, due to vomiting and diarrhea every time I had either.  Mom took me off of both.  When I was, she reintroduced, and I was fine.  No stomach problems until 8th grade.  Noticed minor GI distress and diarrhea with milk, but felt it was worth it to be like my friends.

GI distress increased as an adult.  Stomach always hurt after I ate.  Mom got diagnosed allergic to wheat, corn, and soy.  Mom and hubby ganged up on me fall of 2009 to get allergy tested.

My list:  Wheat, Milk (allergic to an enzyme in milk, so I'm ok if it's cooked), Soy, White Potato, Onion, Garlic, The mold that grows cheese (triggers migraine), Mushrooms, Lima Beans, Tuna, Perch, Cottonseed.

Symptoms now if I eat any is GI cramping and diarrhea.

I hope to learn a lot from you ladies who already have kiddos with allergies, and hopefully help you out with some of my favorite brands and recipes.

Married my best friend January 3, 2004. Elizabeth Ruth born October 25, 2011.

  • You've got a leg up on a lot of people - you're already managing several food allergies!  :)  I had NO idea of any food problems until my 1st child was born.  Whammo!  His first year was SO incredibly difficult as we muddled our way through so, so many feeding/reaction problems.  Then my second came along with just as many issues.  So I got myself tested and discovered that I have Celiac Disease, leaky gut syndrome, and several food allergies!  Talk about having to learn under pressure!   This has been a bumpy road!

Go into this with a positive attitude - you know what your child is likely to face, you know what to look for, and you're going to be on top of it.   Your child's diet will be very carefully introduced, and you're not going to have to worry about when he or she is 4 or 5, having to go through an elimination diet and trying to explain to them why they can't have this or that anymore.  I'm not trying to sound glib, but your child is in a great position!  None of us can control what we inherit, so being born to someone who's got a handle on the situation is a major bonus!  :)

  • that is some list! sorry you deal with it but at least you are prepared. I had my son suffer for 8 months with a nasty eczema, swollen body, bloody blisters b/c i (nor the docs) could figure out what was wrong with my son until he touched a piece of egg at 8 months and ended up in the ER.  you probably won't have to go through that b/c you are very prepared with the signs.

I'm also pregnant now (my DS1 has milk, soy, eggs, peanuts allergy) and my diet this time around is completely different. I rarely eat any processed food and mainly 100% organic. With my first pregnancy i ate bocca burgers like they were going out of style (probably 4 to 6 patties a day for the entire pregnancy) and those patties are re-engineered so i'm a  strong believer that the processed food with all the sh*t in it increased my risks of having a child with food allergies.  true or not, worth trying a healthier diet.

Here is a good video that made me really open up my eyes to the food i was eating. Plus i'm reading "the china study" and i'm ashamed of our food supply.
