I know, it could be worse. I just feel like right now I have the world against me. They said I should get a call from a dietician who will talk to me about my diet and 'lifestyle' changes, along with showing me how to use a tester to prick my finger 4 times a day and keep a log to bring with me to my appointments. She said I passed my fasting level and the 3rd hour but failed the 1 and 2 hour. UGH!
Re: Looks like GD it is!
I am sorry you have to deal with this. GD sucks! I did not like having it at all. Yes, it does become a routine. Yes, you will get enough to eat... but Yes, you will have days you cry for pasta or bread or fries and eventually get a bit of tough skin on your fingertips. Sometimes, things do not really fit into your sugars. I had a great dietician (this was out of state) that helped me but can be a lo tof work to figure out all the stuff that goes into it. It can be frustrating while you figure out your personal triggers. I found that I could not eat 2 slices of pizza.. but I could eat 2 slices of pizza if I had a salad or carrots/celery with it as the fiber slows the sugar break down. Honestly, OJ is pretty much completely out of the question. It is like a swallow for the amount that is the appropriate carbs. Upping your fiber is always a good thing to help.
I found myself having weight just melt off of me during my GD diet. I was losing around 3-4 lbs a week at first. It was hard bc that is not what you want to do while pregnant. I just couldn't stop it even though I followed the diet very strictly. The good thing is that it goes away but unfortunately it does put you at higher risk for type 2 later. I have had to get tests done multiple times since pregnancy to check if I have become type 2. I was very lucky to have to do injections of insulin and I hope you are able to control things without injections as well.
If you ever need someone to commiserate with the GD, feel free to PM me. I hope your GD is easily controlled.
I did check out the High Risk board and just did a little lurking. Once I meet with the counselor I am sure I will have lots of questions for those ladies.
I needed a diet change anyway so I am just going to look at this as the diet plan I always intended to start but never did and hopefully it will do the trick and medication won't be needed. Plus, it may help PP with losing and keeping weight off.
Positive thoughts...
