When to Get Ready For Baby?

I'll be 19 weeks on Wednesday and I just can't stop but think about all that I need to do to get the baby's room ready. I'm turning my office into her room and have a lot I gotta do.

I've already cleaned out all the "office" stuff and re-arranged all that. I'm keeping the king size bed in there as a spare bed for me to use while nursing in the middle of the night and for those looong nights with DD #1 when she's sick and hubby needs sleep. I was gonna work this week on washing all the clothes, getting them organized and next week start decorating the room. Is it to early? When did you begin to do all this stuff?

I've just been so sick, hooked to a IV pole/meds and afraid that if I don't do it now, it won't get done until after baby comes!

Re: When to Get Ready For Baby?

  • I don't think its too early at all.  I'm only 17 weeks and we have already started turning our office into Griffin's new big boy room.  I will find out what we are having in about 3 weeks and at that point I will start organizing clothes (or bying new ones!), washing bedding and decorating the new nursery.  If we have to paint another room I want to do it before then reallly hot days of summer get here (although they pretty much are).  I feel like I should be doing more, but we really can't do a whole lot until we find out what we are having and until we buy new furniture for Griffin.

    Go for it!

  • It isn't too early. I ended up on bedrest and had NOTHING done. Better safe than sorry!
  • If you're feeling up to it, then go for it!

Better too soon, than too late.
Case in point: our dresser & changing table didn't even arrive until after DD was born. Ha!

I plan to start ours as soon as we find out what we're having.  DH thinks I'm nuts and insists "we have plenty of time".

Good news is his sister is temporarily staying in the room, so it's empty and ready to be painted/decorated as soon as she's gone!

  • I'd say go ahead and start! I'm right ahead you in how far along I am. Here is what we have done so far and here is what our next steps are:

    We have:

cleaned out the room (it was the dogs)

We bought the crib, dresser, and glider on Saturday (takes 8-12 weeks to come in)

Scheduled classes that we are going to take with Tri-Health (some are filling up already)

    Next for us to do:

Once we get back from vacation (June 19) we are:

finding out the sex (hopefully on the 22nd)

    picking/ordering bedding

    picking/buying paint

    Painting room

-We hope to have this done by our next vacation (end of July)
