DH and I both like names that have special meanings for us. DD1's name is Meris, Latin for "of the sea". We are thinking of naming DD2 a celestial/space/astronomy-related type name, and here's what we've come up with so far:
Araceli
Aurora
Caeli (pronounced Kylee)
Celia
Celine/Celina
Danica
Dawn
Delaney
Estelle
Hera
Jenna
Stella
Talia
1. I don't particularly care for any of the names above except Aurora (which I find hard to pronounce with the double-r sound) and Caeli. Can anyone offer any other suggestions we may be missing?
I liked Caeli the instant I heard it, but have some concerns.
2. People will constantly be mispronouncing or spelling it (Kaylee, Callie, Kylie), but we would want to stick with the original Latin spelling if we choose this name.
3. The name Kylie is somewhat popular - currently ranked at 61, and we don't want to DD2 to have to go by her last initial because she's one of several in class. To potentially address this, we could pair it with the middle name Jo (will help us know who is being called if her name is mispronounced) or Josephine (love the name and provides lots of options for a more mature, professional sounding name in the future). Aside from
flowing nicely, Jo can be a nod to my mom, whose name is Joanne. However, DD1's mn is Anne, so it would be a double-nod to mom (MIL's name is out of the question).
4. My last hesitation with using Caeli is the association with the name Kyle. Kyle was my step-dad who wound up cheating on my mom, resulting in a nasty break-up.
Thanks for reading -- if you've made it this far, you deserve a cookie! Thoughts on the any of the above?

Re: "Celestial" Names (very long)
I like Aurora and Selene, but spelled like this, not like Celine Dion. Caeli seems like it's going to be too cutesy for a grown woman, and most people who haven't taken Latin will not know how to pronounce it. Despite the fact that it's spelled differently, it will get lost in a sea of "Kylies".
Did you consider Celeste (like Celine) , Diana (Roman Moon Goddess), Vega (one of the brightest stars in the sky), Astrid, Aster, Astra, (all "star"), Sidra (also star), Sky/Skye, Leilani (heaven), Kalani (heaven), Iris (a greek goddess who ferried messages from heaven), Vesper (evening star), Lucinda/Lucy/Lucille (morning star)?
If you don't, you are setting her up for a lifetime of mispronunciations.
ETA: The pp had some good suggestions. (also edited for grammar)
With everything negative you have said about the name Caeli...I think you already decided that its out! I like Aurora, Dawn, and Stella. Plus I look at it and want to say Kay-lee
As another suggestion, is a name I LOVE but cannot you with my LN which ends in -is....Isis!! pronounced ice-is
I'm by no means an expert at pronounciation, however I would not get Kaylee from Caeli... I would say something like See-lee.
So basing it on that and knowing that most people aren't experts on pronouciations, I would not use Caeli.
Actually, the Kylie pronunciation IS Latin (Classical) while the Chay-lee pronunciation is Ecclesiastical Latin (by definition, Latin spoken as Italian would be in Rome). Either way, I think you are right that it will be mispronounced. My name is, as is DD1's (hey, a new family tradition!).
Like Isis but couldn't use it since both DH's and DD1's names end in 'is'. They have a hard enough time figuring out who I am calling now.
I have always loved Celine/Celina - gorgeous. (And I don't care about the fact that it's spelled like Dion's name
). Caeli is a name that I actually was once attracted to but now I find it impractical and a bit too cutesy. I also really like of your list:
Stella
Talia
Celia
Estelle
I once knew an Aurora and she totally owned the name. That said, I too find it difficult to pronounce.
What about the name Celeste? I've always found this name to be stunning.
Also this... I too would be tempted to pronounce it Chay-lee... but yes ecclesiastical Latin is different. It only further confuses this name though.
I actually really love the idea of a nautical and celestial sibset. However, I really dislike Caeli, and I agree Aurora is REALLY difficult to pronounce. On your list, I like Hera and Stella. What about Soleil?
There are so many good celestial style names out there.

How about Aura instead of Aurora? What about Alba? It means dawn.
I also like Estella and Estrella. Not sure if the first version has a double l or not...
Correction: That would be the Church Latin pronunciation. Classical Latin treats "ae" as a long i, and consonants are always hard, so "c" is always pronounced as a k. Unfortunately, you are correct in that most people these days who are familiar with terms in Latin are more likely to be familiar with the Church Latin pronunciation, if it's something that comes up in Catholicism, rather than the classical pronunciation(since that's typically only taught in Latin classes).
