Two Under 2

rocking to sleep

Is there anyone who still rocks their lo to sleep?  My lo is 18 months and I am expecting #2 in a few months.  It is getting harder and harder to rock him to sleep and I am starting to worry about how I am going to manage it with 2.  I love rocking and cuddling with him, but it is starting to get uncomfortable for me and I would think him.....the belly is getting in the way...lol.  I am not a fan of CIO, but I think I need some alternatives.

Thanks.

Re: rocking to sleep

  • I never stopped rocking #1 to sleep (still do) and have no issues putting them both to bed, even when my DH worked late and I did bedtime alone.

  • We rocked to sleep until just past 12 months. It was taking an hour some nights and we decided it needed to change, so we used the Sleep Lady Shuffle. The book is called "The Sleep Lady's Good Night, Sleep Tight" and it worked amazingly well for us. She cried a little in the beginning, but I was in the room with her so I didn't feel like it was CIO, which I also prefer not to do. It was a time committement, but in less than 2 weeks she was putting herself to sleep at night. Naps were even easier once she had been doing it at night for a month or so.

  • We still rock to sleep. it's one of those things that I really believe DS will grow out of on his own. It is getting more difficult so my friend suggested putting LO down in crib and just sitting next to the crib to sooth him. We have tried this before and to my amazement it's worked. Sometimes rocking isn't too uncomfortable, I just rest him higher up on my belly, if that makes sense. I don't have a plan yet for when LO#2 gets here, don't know what I'm going to do or how it will work out. We'll see!  I may try PP's book suggestion. I'm not a fan of CIO either.

This is basically the first step in the Shuffle :) I was surprised how well it worked, but it really is magic and now I recommend it to everyone :P

Have you tried rocking until drowsy rather than asleep?

This. It's actually important that they learn to put themselves to sleep.
