I'm just starting sleep training for my one year old. Well, last night she fell asleep on her own - but she was out of view of the video monitor. I went in to check on her after it was quiet for about 5 - 10 minutes & to my horror she was folded in half!!!! She was sitting up before she fell asleep and I assumed she fell asleep laying down sideways (towards the bottom of the crib) - but she must have fallen asleep sitting up and fell over. I feel like the worst mother in the world. She was OK, I quietly laid her on her back - she was just so warm! I freaked out that she could have suffocated. Needless to say, I barely slept a wink - kept checking the monitor to be sure she didn't do it again.
Has this ever happened to your LO? Should I freak? My husband said if she was uncomfortable she would have rolled over..... but I'm still a mess about it!
Re: Does your LO ever fall asleep folded over?
Yes! She too started doing it when we were sleep training her. We have a video baby monitor and I would actually sit and watch her fold herself in half and go to sleep. It was definitely intentional-- rather than just her getting so sleepy she passed out while sitting. It looked awful, like something out of zombie movie. However, my husband said the exact same thing yours did-- she wouldn't do it if it were uncomfortable, blah blah blah. It was just so disturbing.
FWIW, it's been a few months and she doesn't do it anymore.
Not my guy, but I sleep like that all of the time. I find that I sleep better sitting with my legs crossed and my head in my lap. Weird? yes. Comfy? yes.
I wouldn't worry about it. Like pp said, if she was uncomfy, she would have moved.
Go Phils!!
THANK YOU so much for making me feel better! WHEW - its amazing how the words of moms make you relax.
