? regarding BFing and pumping for stockpiling

I'm trying to get a little stash going in the freezer so I can eventually leave LO with Grandma for an evening here and there.  Anyone else pumping to store for use at a later date?  If so when do you pump?  Right after feedings?  Wait an hour then pump? &re you getting some decent amounts?  I'm pumping after feedng at the direction of my LC and not getting much.  Over time the supply should incease if i'm pumping consistently right?

Re: ? regarding BFing and pumping for stockpiling

  • Pumping in the morning has been the most useful to me. I am getting about 3-6 oz. per session, 8 on a good day. I store in 4 oz. or less increments. Once it is thawed and in a bottle, it shouldn't be re-used so I keep the oz. small so none goes to waste.

  • I started out pumping right after feeding her. I did it all day, but not at night. In the beginning I barely got any, but now she eats from one side and I pump the other and get 4-5oz each time. And now that she is only getting up once or twice during the night I have to pump then too, and I get about 8 oz then. I think I am overdoing it though, but my work isn't conducive to pumping regularly so I am trying to get as much as possible now in case we aren't successful when I go back.

Also, now she goes 4ish hours between feedings during the day, so I might wait an hour after she feeds and pump both sides to get a little more. She is putting on weight so well that I am not worried about her not getting enough.

  • I pump after the 9 am feeding.  I am too tired after the 6 am one.  Plus I feel my breasts are fulliest at this feeding.  I get about 2 ozs from each breast after the feeding.  I also pump a little off the top if he has had a long nap and I am especially full.  I let down really quickly and he seems to choke sometimes so the pumping before helps this out a bit.

His three plus my one; we are all excited to welcome a little one!

  • I pump after the 1st morning feeding. I yield about 1-2 oz. after she's eaten. I combine 2 days worth of pumpings into 3-4 oz bags and freeze. I have about 35 oz. so far.

  • I pump while he is nursing on the other. I have about 80ish ounces in the freezer already. He favors one boob but I think the other one gets more milk because it constantly feels like it might explode. Which is fine I guess since I am pumping on that side. I pump usually during or right after a feeding. If I know he got a lot to eat I will sometimes "empty" that boob after too because I might as well get as much as I can. My work will be impossible to pump at so I am trying to get a stockpile going as well. I buy the little 6oz freezer bags and my goal is to put at least 2-4 bags in the freezer a day. So far so good with the exception of two days ago when my first pump broke-fml-but got a new one yesterday so problem solved.
