Too much stuff...

Does anyone else feel that they just simply own too much stuff?  Due to the fact that I'm on TB every morning with my coffee I get exactly one hearty hour less to clean and organize the house.  I've noticed that I have way too much stuff to keep track of and find homes for now that DD's here. And it keeps piling up.

But I like my stuff, so I don't want to part with it! yes, I have 8000 pillows and blankets, but I NEED them!

I went on a purge recently. I just browsed through each room separatly, and got rid of anything I hadn't used in a year. I tried really hard to not think "oh, but I might use it sometime." It felt reallllly good. And I feel like I hardly made a dent, even though I threw away a truck bed full of stuff, and donated the same amount.

  • Wow, where'd you find the time to do all of that?!  I'm lucky to go through one room a week lol

  • Me! Plus our basement flooded so all our crap we stored down there is overtaking our living space. I would clean it, but then the baby needs to eat and I get on Facebook and the Bump while she nurses, and then she falls asleep nursing so I might as well stay put, right? :) I am going crazy with the clutter though, I gotta get my act together soon.

  • GIRL, you are NOT kidding. I have been purging for months now (because I don't have time to do very much, so it gets done in small bits here and there) And I still feel we have too much stuff. Yes, I have my holiday decorating stuff, but that's all in bins. I recently cleaned out my medicine cabinets and had one ENTIRE grocery bag FILLED with expired pills!! Not in their plastic containers, either! I flushed all those down the drain and recycled the containers. I had so much room that I suddenly had space for the glass vases I have for special occasions (gravy glass, lemonade glass, etc) and small appliances and cookbooks! I also purged the kid's cabinet with all their bowls/plates/cups, and WOW what a difference. We have loads and loads more space. And yet, we still have too many kitchen appliances that have been unloaded on us by friends, or too many plate sets, or mugs, or kid's silverware, and pots and pans... Wow.

Even so, I still find myself having too much stuff. It doesn't help that DH is a hoarder and doesn't let go of stuff. When we visited his parent's house years ago, they kept his room the SAME as it was when he lived there. It was FILLED with garbage things. On one of his desks, there was a 72oz cup from the local S&S gas station and it was full of unused, unsharpened pencils. He'd kept them from EVERY field trip he'd taken with his classes since 3rd grade! He kept them to 'remember.' It took me a year to convince him 1. He didn't even remember those places; 2. He doesn't ever use pencil and 3. Our kids will NOT want them someday. He finally gave them to Goodwill so some less fortunate kids who need pencils for school could have them.

I have LOTS more to go.

  • I need to do this really bad.

My closet is horrible. i still have some shirts from 8th grade Embarrassed. I am a "one day I might use it" person. Every now and then I will get a random urge to just throw everything away and I think I will probably do that tonight.
