IL Vent...long (sorry!)

So, here it is 2:30 A.M. and I am wide awake...as is DH... and DS! DH called me 2 1/2 hours ago to tell me DS had woke up right after I left to go to Wal-Mart right before 11:00 and that he was still trying to get him to go back to sleep. He got him to sleep at one point and went to lay him down when SIL & FIL come upstairs making all kinds of noise, opening and closing doors, talking, and turning on every light they possibly can. WTF?! They clearly knew DH was trying to get him back to sleep. SIL was downstairs talking on the phone loud enough to hear from upstairs. I asked her to quit talking so loud because he was trying to get Jonah to sleep so she goes outside. Comes back in a few minutes later and asks if she can help me do anything, so I tell her, "unless you can get Jonah to sleep like he should be, then no, I don't need your help!" "What?! He's still not asleep?" I told her why he wasn't asleep and she has the nerve to LAUGH!! I wanted to punch her square in the face as she walked upstairs to go to sleep! What is wrong with people? I'm so ready for them to go home. To add to this, DS turned one on Thursday and his birthday party is tomorrow. Hoping that since he went to bed at 8:00 that he would get up around 8:00 and get his nap in before his party at 1:00. Yeah right! Not any more. On top of that, they are both slobs! We bought white living room furniture and haven't even had it a month. DH has started demolition on our backyard and now it is nothing but good ol' GA red clay! FIL walks out back BAREFOOT through the wet red clay and comes back in where I see him shortly after put his bare freakin feet on my brand new white couch!! Ugh! DH & I both agreed that nobody would eat in the living room other than us, which we don't really even do, for the simple reason that most people would not offer to clean our furniture or have it clean if they were to spill something on it. Well, I look in there while I'm busy getting things ready for tomorrow and they're both (FIL & SIL) shelling peanuts on the couch while they're watching the Braves like they're in the stadium and SIL was eating lunch in there earlier. Not only that, I don't want anybody sleeping on my couch, mainly FIL since he treats his furniture like $h%t and in return treats ours the same way. He is layed out with his dirty @$$ feet on my white pillows...again. I am about to lose it! So, the 3 1/2 hours spent trying to get DS to sleep was supposed to be used to finish everything for his party. Looks like no sleep for this momma tonight since I am beyond pissed that I can't even sleep. Just to add one more reason why I'm not my FIL's biggest fan...he spanked my baby about 3 months ago while he was trying to get him to sleep. Not one of those taps on the butt that they probably can't even feel through the diaper, but one loud enough to come through on the monitor. And it wasn't just one either, it was like 3 or 4 and only because DS wouldn't go to sleep for him since he doesn't know his routine or what we do to get him to sleep. This is after we made it clear to him that we do not believe in spanking and especially not a BABY! Had to get all of this off my chest since I'm wide awake and see no sleep in my future until late tonight!

ok, so i was feeling your frustration on the whole white sofa thing, but then i got to the spanking a baby part and my jaw dropped! there would have been hell to pay if my inlaws pulled that stunt!

Tell them to leave. They aren't welcome. Especially after spanking the baby!

Have you talked to them at all about what you expect from them?  Spanking my baby out of anger is an absolute deal breaker.  I'm a pretty straight shooter so my talk would go something like this:

"Number 1, if you want to help me put DS to bed I would appreciate the help.  However, if you start to get frustrated because he won't go to sleep you need to pass him back to me.  Because if you ever so much as think about spanking my baby out of anger again, I'll rip your f*&#ing throat out.  Number 2, we have a white couch.  There is no eating or drinking in the room with white couch.  We have a back yard full of red Georgia clay.  There is no putting your feet in my house, especially on my white couch, if they are dirty."

  Ditto all this!!  I would be speaking up and laying down the rules especially regarding the spanking and the white couch

I hope you ripped FIL a new one for even laying a hand on your son. No one better even think about spanking my child, or they'll have a hell of a lot of hell to pay!!

Sounds like you need to lay down the law or show them the closest hotel.
