How is it that I'm both excited and dreading Disney?!

We're taking our 5 y.o. and 2 y.o. in two weeks. We will be spending 3 nights at the Poly w/ a 2-day park-hopper.

I am excited, but slightly dreading it as well! I just don't want us to end up exhausted and miserable. I had some people tell me since we're only there 2 days, not to worry about naps, just go-go-go to see everything we want to see. I think I'm going to ignore that advice. My 2 y.o. will be way too irritable if we completely skip naptime. Plus I think I'm going to need the downtime too!

Anyone have Disney advice they want to share?

  • my friend just took her son. He napped both in the stroller and in their room. They were "late" to the park some days but they were happy and sane. I say follow your kids lead and you will have a ball, ignore naps sounds like a disaster in the making but kids often nap on the run :) have fun!

  • I was just there for 7 days. I say do what you want and chances your 2 year old will just pass out in the stroller. With 2 days, I would just pick the things you really want to do, because you won't really have to do a whole lot.

  • Just take one day at a time and play everything by ear.  If the kids need a nap or you need to rest go back to the room and relax.  Plan your days according to which park opens early and which park stays open late.   I wouldn't try to squeeze everything in you'll just be exhausted and you won't enjoy the trip.   The Polynesian is awesome because the monorail is so convenient.  You can also take the boat to Magic Kingdom too from there.
  • Exhausted, you will be but you forget that part and just have the happy memories...at least that's how it is for me (just like pregnancy, weird?!?)--I was 17 wks pregnant when we went.

eta: we were only there 4 days and it wasn't enough but we just let DS1 crash in the stroller and went on about our day...went to the hotel when we were done seeing what we wanted to see, some days/parks that was earlier than others....swimming afterward was a nice way to cool off.

  • We took DD when she was 18 months, for a family reunion.  Yes - we were "those" people with the matching t-shirts.  We had a wonderful time but she wasn't in the best mood the entire time.  Ultimately she napped in her stroller every day and was cranky.  But on the flip side, she was so exhausted come night time that bedtime in a different place was no prob.  Good luck and have fun!
