I'm interested in buying an item that's been listed for over a month. If they're asking $100 for it, how much would you offer? It's in good condition, but they need to get rid of it. (It's a metal frame for a loft bed in case that matters.)
The item may not be available, people are bad about updating posts. But it doesn't hurt to offer and find out. I would reply with "Is this item still available? If so, I would be interested. Would you accept 75.00?"
I almost always offer less money and usually they accept. I also list items knowing I will probably get less than what I am asking. GL!

This. I wouldn't pay more than $75 if it has been there more than a month and hasn't been taken.

I would go look at it first, then offer $75 if you want. I guess I am old fashion- but if someone has a price listed, that is what I am expecting to pay. I don't ask to lower the price before even seeing it. But after seeing it, I do ask if the price can go any lower.
i don't buy from craigslist very often but i do sell on there from time to time and expect to be offered a lower price. however im a garage sale junkie and if the item is a big one i *always* ask for 25% or more off the asking price and 90% of the time they accept...maybe ask if they'll take 60.00 and if they say no then offer 75
