Bad first tri screening results...looking for experiences

Hi girls,

I am 13 weeks and the doctor just called with the results of my first rimester screening tests.  The ultrasound looked good and the fluid on the spine was in the normal range.  She just said the the blood test came back with a few numbers very low.  Some level of proteins or something were much lower than the normal range.  She said it could be indicitive of any number of things including something wrong with the placenta and blood flow.  She said the next step is a level 2 ultrasound and more bloodwork.  She said they can't do anything before 18 weeks because they wouldn't be able to see enough on the ultrasound before that to get answers.  It is going to kill me to wait 5 weeks for answers.  Did anyone else have 12 week blood work come back with some low numbers?  What ended up coming of it?  Thanks!

  • My AFP test came back slightly low, and they said it could be Spina Bifida.  I went in for a special ultrasound offsite since my HMO couldn't fit me in right away.  The ultrasound showed a marker for Down's.  So to me, I had 2 opposite signs which cancelled eachother out, because the conditions have opposite results on the AFP test.  My doc recommended an amnio since she considered it 2 red flags.  I asked to go to the offsite place I had my US.  The Dr. there talked me out of the amnio saying the chance of something being wrong was the same of having a miscarriage.  So I didn't have the amnio, and my DD was perfectly healthy.  I feel for you, because I did worry extensively for over half of my pregnancy until she was born.  I have heard of a lot of cases of false positives, so just stay positive.
