Pregnant after a Loss

Low fluid

Of course, the drama never ends. I called my Dr. yesterday for decreased movement, and he had me come in to L&D. I had a stress test, a BPP and a fluid swab. I have REALLY low fluid (between 5-6), as in, if it were any lower, I would have been admitted. Other than that, baby passed with flying colors.

So of course I am freaking out, but at the same time, I am wondering how accurate the measurement is. First off, I had it measured Tuesday and it was 11. That was at MFM by a tech. This was done by the resident with this weirdass u/s that she said "wasn't the best". I really think it was a combination of that, maybe the position of the baby, and the fact that it PROBABLY is lower because it was in the 90s all week, and the day before I spent the day at the pool outdoors all day. I was with a friend who is a L&D nurse and she was scolding me all day because I didn't drink any water.

SO, they gave me an IV of fluid. I have been chugging water and will continue to do so for the next 7 weeks. Now I have 2 NST a week, in addition to my weekly u/s and weekly OB appts. My next scan at MFM is Tues. so I am hoping the fluid increases by then.

Sigh. The only thing that worries me is that with DD, they induced me at 39w when she had a 5.8 fluid level. I understand she needs to keep cooking, but really, I have had enough. The stress is going to kill me.

Re: Low fluid

  • HUGS!

I hope the next measurement shows the fluid level rose.  Just keep chugging that water and take it easy (as much as you can).  I'll be thinking of you.

  • ((Hugs)) I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I just posted about too much fluid below! Just keep drinking and hopefully your fluid level will rise by Tuesday. It's so unfair that you have to deal with this stress.

  • Chug! Chug!! CHUG!!! that water!

I'm sorry you're dealing with all this stress though. Sending you extra hugs.

  • I am sorry about your low fluid level.  My one friend had this issue and was recommended to drink 3-4 liters of water a day.  I seems like water is the best thing to drink so that you can avoid all the sugars in juices. Milk is another good supplement.  GL with your next appointment.

  • *big hugs* hon, I hope a combo of IV fluids and extra water consumption will help up fluid measurements.  For some reason I'd be more inclined to trust the measurements the MFM produced versus the resident's measurements with their weird azz machine.

  • Well, you and I can be low fluid buddies. I had literally the EXACT same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago at 33 weeks. Went in for decreased movement, my fluid was 6.5, LO passed the NST and all, but now I am being monitored twice a week as well. The good news is though, I drank tons and tons of water and they checked me again a few days later and it had gone up to 11, which they said was ok. My last check on Monday was 10.9, so I have managed to keep it somewhat stable. My doctor also said being IN the pool is great because somehow the water pressure helps fluid levels. I have been in the pool three times this week. I am actually about to go in for my second fluid check this week. So....you and I can keep each other in check with the water consumption. I literally feel like I am going to float away at times. Chug that water and hopefully your next check will be better like mine!

  • Thanks for the good wishes everyone :)

Ashley, we def. have to be low fluid buddies. I am hoping the increased water intake helps. Please God, let it help. I don't have daily access to a pool, do you think that taking baths in my soaking tub would be as good?

Also, and this totally goes against "I have plenty of time" mantra...I guess I should pack a bag *grumbles*. With these tests 2x a week I guess I could end up getting admitted at any time if things look iffy, right?

Yes, my doctor said soaking in a bath or a pool is great. And she was right, my fluid went up to 14 today with lots of soaking and drinking water! I am telling you, it works! I am with you on packing a bag though...I went in for my BPP this morning and the threatened to send me to the hospital for another NST because LO was being lazy again. Keep in mind, LO will be lazy if fluid levels are low too. Good luck and hydrate!!!!
