3rd Trimester

Measuring big anyone??

I just had an appt and doc says I'm measuring big, so I had to schedule an ultrasound for my next appt, in 2 weeks, to see if the baby is big or to make sure there isn't too much fluid. She said she thinks it's just the way the baby is positioned, but to be safe I'm having an ultrasound.

Any of you girls measure big and have the ultrasound? If yes, what was the outcome.

Thanks! 2 weeks is so far away!

  • Last week at my 35 weeks appt. I was measuring like 43  weeks.  Today I went back and I am 36 weeks, will be 37 on Saturday and I was measuring  36 weeks.  She said I had dropped.  I also asked her if I needed to be concerned about excess fluid and she said no because I didn't have GD.  Anyways, don't know about the ultrasound part but just wanted to share my experience.

  • I have been measuring big since about 30wks. At 31wks I had a growth u/s and my LO was measuring at 35wks. This has been consistent since then that I am measuring about 3 weeks ahead. I have another growth u/s at 37wks to see how big she is. I'm happy my Dr won't induce me just because of size if she is under 10lbs, but unfortunately they said they would give me a c-sec if they suspect she is over 10lbs.

  • Yep, I'm in the same boat. My doc ordered an u/s for me at my appointment yesterday...the soonest I could get in will be the 14th. I am not concerned because the same.exact.thing happened when I was pregnant with my son. My belly is huge, but it turns out I had the highest range threshold of what is "normal" for amniotic fluid. The baby was fine and born at 7lbs 2oz at 38 weeks. I am very, very short waisted, and I think that has some to do with it too. I've known so many people this happened to, and in every case...both mom and baby were fine and none gave birth to gigantor babies :)
  • My fundal height is not measuring big so far this pregnancy, but with DD I consistently measured big after about 32/34 weeks.  Initially we did an ultrasound to find out why and discovered I had high amniotic fluid levels.  We then did ultrasounds every two weeks to monitor it. DD was born at a healthy 7 pounds 15.4 ounces at 40 weeks 1 day.  No problems for either of us!

  • My last pregnancy I measured big, and DD was breech.  I thought she was breech before the ultrasound, and it confirmed it.  Most likely it is nothing serious.  It could be any of those things that have been posted.
  • I've measured ahead most of my pregnancy but I have been measuring further and further ahead at each appointment. At my last  appointment at 26 weeks my doctor told me if I am measuring any further ahead at my appointment next week they will do an ultrasound to check fluid and baby. If fluid is high like he suspects he told me they may drain some off. I had an elective 3d/4D ultrasound done at 28 weeks the first thing out of the techs mouth was holy moly you have a lot of fluid have you been measuring ahead at all? She also informed me that my little girl was not so little she was measuring a little over 2 weeks ahead, which was surprising since at all the other ultrasounds she had been measuring right on track or a few days behind. I am so nervous for next week I have a really good feeling my doctor will order a ultrasound and may request we drain off fluid.
  • By u/s I have been measuring one week bigger since 14 weeks. By tape, I have been measuring 2 weeks bigger until this week (28 weeks) appt. I am measuring 29 weeks now.  I have one more u/s next Tuesday to check other things so we will see how big DS #3 is.

Neither the OBGYN or specialist is worried about it at all.

My fundal height started out as measuring 1 week ahead and kept going up.   At 34 weeks, I was measuring between 3-4 weeks ahead.   Since I didn't measure ahead at all with my first and I was close to 4 weeks ahead this time, she sent me for a growth scan.

I had the scan at 34 weeks and 5 days.   I had excess fluid plus a big baby(estimated to already be 7 lbs 4 oz...DS was born at 39 weeks 2 days and weight 8 lbs 3 oz, so it seems I grow big babies)

Dr had me repeat the 1 hr glucose just to make sure I didn't develop GD after passing the test back in March.   My levels were fine.

I now have been going for weekly BPP to check on baby and fluid levels.   My fluid is still high but baby looks good.   They will be doing another growth scan along with the BPP on Monday.

My dr doesn't like to schedule c-sections just because baby might be big.   She did say though depending on what the scan on Monday shows, we might have to talk about inducing me at some point.   I know she is not going to let me go past my due date.
