What are the odds?!

Only me, I swear.

So Emma has a hamster, Princess.  Princess had this nasty abcess on her ear that we could not get to heal after various trips to the vet.  The vet finally told us that he thought it was actually a tumor/cancer and that she had also gone blind.  :(

Last night Emma got all upset about it and said "Mom, I know that Princess is going to die and I don't want to just sit here and watch her suffer."  I explained to her that we could take her back to the vet and that they could give her some medicine to help her pass away quickly so she wouldn't be in pain anymore.  It was a pretty matter of fact conversation, no tears, etc.

This morning I called and made the appointment to have Princess put down and took Emma over to my dad's house while I went and did the deed.  But I didn't know whether or not I should let them dispose of her or if I should bring her home for a proper backyard burial.  I called Emma and cue the waterworks, she starts bawling her eyeballs out, completely broken hearted and says for me to bring her home so we can bury her.  So freaking sad.

I get to the vets office and the tech is being all somber and compassionate and she says, "Mam, I'm not sure if this is an appropriate time to talk about this with you or not BUT...we just had a lady this morning bring in a baby hamster that her family cannot take care of.  She signed the paperwork for us to euthanize the hamster if we don't find a home for it.  We would be happy to give you the baby hamster if you want it."    ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!

So needless to say, R.I.P. Princess and welcome to the family baby Zoe.
