VBAC

anyone have a successful VBAC after...

their first child's cord was wrapped around his/her neck? I had a c-section because my son's heart rate was all over the place, and the doc thought this was the best route. He never dropped, and I never dilated on my own without the help of pitocin. I think the reason I had the have the section was because his cord was wrapped. Even though my doc said he never would have fit. I think it's bogus. I'm not pregnant yet, but am hoping to VBAC my next one. Have any of you ladies had a similiar experience and then gone on to have a VBAC?

  • I won't be attempting my VBAC until November, but I had my first C-Section for just about the same reasons.  I was induced at 41.5 weeks, and after 48 hours, I never got past 4 cm because DS had the cord wrapped several times and he wasn't putting enough pressure on my cervix.  His heart rate was deceling every contraction and they finally made me go to C/S.

All I know is that the doctor that delivered DS and my current doctor have both told me that I'm an excellent candidate for a VBAC.  I think most doctors agree that if it's circumstances that are due to the baby (bad positioning, etc.) then you're a pretty good candidate.

  • My DD did not have the cord wrapped around her, but I can't imagine how a cord wrap could possibly impact your chances of a VBAC since it's very unlikely to happen again.

     I agree with this.

  • I know it's unlikely to happen again, I was just curious as to if this has happened to anyone before and then went on to have a successful VBAC. Just to kind of ease my mind I guess. Although both my husband's and his brother's cord were wrapped around their necks! Crazy!

  • I didn't have the cord issue but the OB who did my c/s told me my daughter never would have fit and that my pelvis was too small to have a VBAC.  I went on to have a VBAC with a baby that was bigger than my first.

This is soooo reassuring! My dr looked @ me over the curtain after they pulled my son out and said "he never would have fit." I have heard of many women that were told this by their doc's and went on to have successful VBAC's. I just don't understand how they can just matter-of-factly tell you this when they can't possibly know!
