So, I talked to SIL today and she told me to call her dad (SFIL) I called him, and he EXPLODED. What the hell is wrong with her? She is doing this because she wants attention, yada yada. So not the reaction I expected, and I think he is going to do more harm knowing than good. He asked why we played into it by taking her in, and that she just needs her "ass kicked to get her head on straight"

I felt like going off on him, but he is the kind who would not stop and really hear what I was saying. Telling him was a HUGE mistake.

Oh, that stinks!  I think you totally did the right thing.  By taking her in and by calling him.  Imagine what could have happened if you hadn't taken her in and she did something to hurt herself?  You'd have to live with that decision.  

And, most people making threats like that are looking for help and "needing attention."  So, he's right.  But, it sounds like she needs the attention.   

You didn't make a mistake.  Sorry you're having to deal with all of this.  HUGS!

Oh man, that is unexpected. I hope that he doesn't take that rage out on her, she needs support not critism.
