North Carolina Babies

help me understand this. . .

not knowing you're pregnant until you're in labor (or pushing out the baby). Both pregnancies for me (I'm nearly 16 weeks pregnant now with #2) have been obvious. . .because I puke my guts out for the whole first trimester. Also, Zoe moved and kicked A TON! I understand how bigger gals may not look pregnant, but don't they feel it??? I also know the mind can be powerful when it comes to denial, but it's just so strange to me. Thoughts?

Re: help me understand this. . .

  • Nic was a calm baby in the womb.  I didn't not really feel him until 21/22 weeks and there were times I worried something was wrong b/c there would be a day that I would barely feel him.  Even at the end he was not that jiggly.  It is crazy that someone would not know they were pregnant until they go into labor but there are crazier things out there.
  • I think it is odd myself.  But, I can somewhat see where this happens.  If a woman is larger, and her menstrual cycle is not normal, then she probably doesn't question additional weight gain and the continued absence of her period.  Add to that, if she doesn't have an active baby.

    Can you imagine the surprise?!

  • I honestly have no idea how this happens. I know not everyone has every symptom, but I can not image having no symptoms in combination with not noticing the weight gain or feeling any movement.

  • I seriously do not understand it. I think a lot of it is really denial. I think they really know but act like they don't (like b/c they don't want to be pregnant i.e. too young). I don't know.

We've seen a big increase in this recently in our ER. I wonder if you are too bobs, since you're wondering....

  • I can't figure it out either!  I think a lot of them may be girls in situations where denial plays a role, but some of the ones I've seen one that show "I Didn't Know I was Pregnant" seem like educated women who somehow really didn't know.  Some of them aren't that heavy either, and claim they didn't show.  It baffles me!  I was big as a house and felt pregnant the entire time LOL!  I can't imagine at all how you could not feel the baby moving.

  • Jen, yes, we're seeing more and more of this in the ER. So bizarre.
