Update on alcoholic BIL

I sent an email to DH's immediate family a couple of days ago starting a dialog about BIL's alcohol addiction and suggested we confront him.

It took a full day to hear back from his parents and other brothers, but thankfully everyone is on board.  We're going to confront him at our house in a couple of weeks when everyone is here for a vacation. 

We're now coming up with our game plan for how to handle it.  My DH found a treatment center here in Seattle that sounds really great.  It doesn't follow the typical 12 step program (which none of us think would work for him).  We're requesting more information and getting advice from some professionals.

Thanks to everyone who provided support and suggestions the other day.  This is going to be a long journey and I just hope he accepts the help we are offering.

I missed your original post but just wanted to let you know we also had an intervention for my BIL about two years ago.  He had been living with us to "get back on his feet" but we realized we were just enabling him.  He went to a treatment facility in Florida and has been sober two years this May.  I know what you're going through!  (((HUGS)))

Good luck!  Recovery is a long and draining process for family members.

Wow!  So great he's been sober for 2 years.  How did you go about doing the intervention?  Any suggestions you can share?
