Illinois Babies

New here

First of all, I would like to introduce myself!  I have been a regular on the September 2010 boards, currently living in Philly and relocating to Chicago next summer.  Looking for advice on day care in Chicago like Kfrsimmons.

For those of you who use day care in the city, how much do you pay?  My DD will be almost 2 when we move.  We're looking to live and work in the city.  DH will be a fellow at children's memorial hospital.

 TIA!

  • Welcome! GL with the move.

Daycare around here usually starts at around $180-220 a week and goes upward.

  • The cost for child care varies greatly depending on the where the provider is located.  I live on the Northwest Side of Chicago (although more North than West) and child care is on average about $150 - $200 depending on where you go.  Home daycare's tend to be a little more affordable then big daycare centers.  Personally I prefer a smaller childcare setting for a younger child and as the child gets older then graduate to a childcare center/preschool.

I am a mother of two, when my 5 year old was a 4 months old she started daycare in a home daycare and we had a pretty good experience with the care she was receiving.  Just as she got older my spouse and I wanted our daughter to be in more of an active learning environment instead of just making art.

If you have an idea where you would be moving to in Chicago, I would recommend contacting Action for Children and request a list of providers in that area.  I don't have the number handy at the moment, but you can google it.
