My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to LA at the beginning of Dec. We'll be there for a long weekend -- any suggestions on what to do? We're staying near Century Plaza. I'd love to hear restaurant recommendations, activities nearby, etc. Also -- is it better to rent a car or can we take a cab or walk to places in that area? Are there any show tapings we could go to? Thanks!!

Re: Fellow nestie needs advice for weekend in LA
You should definitely get a car! LA is a car city, unfortunately. You're staying in a great area - with a lot right near by. Go to Santa Monica and check out the beach/pier/shopping. There is a nice mall right there walking distance, I'm sure, to your hotel. You're close to Westwood Village where there is more shopping, movie premiers, and some restaurants. And just to the east is West Hollywood - with lots to offer as well.
My restaurant recommendations: The Nook https://www.nookbistro.com/, The Library Ale House https://www.libraryalehouse.com/, and Pink Taco https://www.pinktaco.com/.
Centutry City has underwent a HUGE makeover this past year. You must be at the old Century Plaza/Hyatt. At the mall, there are many places to eat: Pink Taco (like Las Vegas), Rock Sugar (from the makers of Cheesecake Factory) and a huge outdoor food court. All new.
Def. get a car, but you will be able to walk to Beverly Hills in 20 minutes. My favorite place to eat there is Il Pastaio. Its a good place for lunching outdoors. Other hot places to eat in BH: Spagos, Mastros and Cut. Cut is Wolfgangs newest steak place located at the Beverly Wilshire. Please make a reservation or you wont be able to eat at all. They have a bar across the restaurant that says they will serve food, but we were there last week and did not eat until 11 pm.
You must try Pizzeria Mozza. This is Mario Batalis pizze place off Melrose and Highland. Reservations recommended as it takes 30 days to secure a weekend dinner table.
Re tapings...you will have to write NBC. The Jay Leno show is popular and starts taping at 3 pm.Then there is the Price is Right. The Getty museum in located off the 405 and currently they have the Bernini exhibit going on.
Def rent a car and drive up to Malibu. Its beautiful.
