Pregnant after a Loss

Using a doppler at 15-16 weeks

I have been too nervous to use the doppler I borrowed from my sister since about 12 weeks or so since I didn't find the heartbeat then.  My belly has been growing, so that should reassure me enough that everything is fine, right?  I'm just not sure how I'll make it to my ultrasound a week from tomorrow if I don't manage to find the heartbeat.  I should be able to find it relatively easily at this point, right?  Any tips on how high up to search?

  • I have had zero problems finding the hb on my doppler since 9w6d.  But at this point in your pg, the baby can really be anywhere in the area of your belly button and down.

  • I have a hard time finding it and keeping it.... as soon as I get the heartbeat the babe moves away.  It is more difficult to find the first time since the baby can be anywhere... I used to find mine of the left and now I find it on the right.   If you are really worried I would wait one more week until after your ultrasound so you are able to see where baby is currently hanging out.

  • I imagine you should be able to find the heartbeat pretty easily by now.  I have a tilted uterus, which made it impossible for even my doctor to find the heartbeat by doppler at 12 weeks.  But I had an appointment today (15 weeks) and he found the heartbeat quickly and easily, no problem.  Smile  Good luck!

  • For me, it was fairly easy to find below my belly button and above my bikini line.  Make sure and press down a bit if you need to but at 15-16w it should be easy to find the hb.

I Say use it, but start low around your pelvis. The baby has a lot of room in there right now and is moving a lot more than it was before. At that point it became hard for me to listen for more than a few second because of all the movement, but those few second will completely help you feel better!

BTW, that was also the same time I felt LO. I was 15w6d and using the doppler. He hit it. :) He hates that thing.

  • You should be able to find the HB now- it can be a little tricky because the baby is moving all over the place.  But once you find it, it will be much louder and easier to identify than it would have been a few weeks ago.  I would start maybe an inch or two below your belly button and go from side to side.

  • You should be able to find it, but I have found that it takes me even longer to find the farther along I am.  He is moving all around.

  • I start half way between my belly button and my pubic bone and usually find it quickly now. I also hear what sounds like movements which is cool. I'll be holding the probe completely still and there will be this interference sound. Go for it- I bet you'll find it.
