Detroit Babies

teething or something else?

sunday DD's first tooth broke through, and other than some crying that could also have been tiredness, she hasn't really acted any differently- until yesterday. she took 3 longer-than-an-hour naps, which is unusual for her, and toward the end of the day she had some diarrhea. she slept fine last night but woke up crying this morning, also unusual, and was only awake for about an hour before she wanted to go back down, and she's now been asleep over 2 hours. she felt warm this morning but i didn't check her temp, and she also had some more diarrhea. periodically during this nap, she will wake up, cry or fuss for 10-30 seconds, and go right back to sleep.

so is all this related to her tooth? or is it something else that just happens to coincide?

  • My DS has acted this way when he's cutting teeth and when he's sick and when he's going through a growth spurt.  Could be related to teething or it could be a virus/illness.  Sorry I'm not more help!  Babies are a mystery :)  If you are concerned I would call the pedi.  I know the first time DS had an ear infection I thought it was teething, but it wasn't.  He never runs a fever.  Then I thought he had an ear infection b/c he was acting the same way he did with his first ear infection and he was really cutting 5 teeth.  I felt better after I took him in, even though he wasn't sick.

  • Babies are a mystery. My DS has had diarrhea and fever when cutting his molars. It never hurts to have them checked out by the pedi...

Could be a virus or something, although it sounds like teething.

  • Peyton had this issue last week.  I called the pedi to get advice from them.  It had been going on for about 3 days. They said if she had another bad night that night, to bring her in- could be teething, could be a virus.  Well, she had a good night and seemed back to normal the next day.  Still no new teeth.  I guess it was a virus.  :)

  • in case y'all are curious, i waited it out the one day and she was about 95% back to normal the next day, so i think we're ok:) looks like she has a second tooth coming in on top, too, so maybe that affected stuff. thanks for the advice!
