Hey girl! I saw and responded to your post last night, but I wasn't sure if you'd go back to see my response or not
So glad to see you back and even more glad that you had a fabulous trip! Our DDs are close enough in age that I wanted to ask how things went with E?
DH and I keep toying with the idea of a vacation. . . I think DS is at a perfect age for a trip, but I can't decide if DD is too young - especially for somewhere warm/ the beach. A) I worry about LOs overheating (probably more than most), and
I can't decide if the sand and sun and etc. would just be no fun with a baby this young. I was hoping you could provide some insight
Feel free to PM or email me if you'd rather!
Re: *** cjsbdl ***
She did great with the actual travel...a little fussy towards the end of the seven-hour trip, but that's to be expected. I was fussy, too.
We were visiting family, so we didn't actually do the beach this time for the very reasons you mentioned. Too much work and too hot. My pedi specifically warned me about overheating with E so I'm a little paranoid about it myself.
But I definitely think FL is doable even if you don't spend much time at the beach. Remember that there is always a nice breeze on the coast. You could rent a house with a pool and just keep A in the shade.
Or maybe you should consider a trip to the Smokies. There is so much fun stuff to do indoors in Gatlinburg...this would be the perfect time of year for a trip there!
ETA: I should clarify, we did spend some time down at the coast, we just didn't put on suits and lay on the beach, etc. We had lunch at The Back Porch, walked on the beach a bit, went to the Gulfarium, etc. E actually loved being at the beach...I think babies just love the sound and the breeze. I just dressed her in really cool clothes and sat in the shade with her while DH played for a bit on the beach with H.
Oh my gosh, I remember the Back Porch! Love it! My family spent every spring break down there for many years but it's been sooo long
Anyway, yes, somewhere like Gatlinburg is definitely being considered - I honestly just think that D would have so much more fun at the beach/ pool - he's just young enough that I'm not sure how much his attention would be held by a non-beach trip, and he loves the water
(But maybe I'm not giving him enough credit!) And, at the same time, if it would be more trouble than it's worth with A, then it's definitely not worth doing yet!
Thanks for the thoughts.
I'll be honest and say that it's only recently that Henry has been interested in kid-friendly activities. Example: if we'd gone to FL a couple months ago I don't think the Gulfarium would've interested him at all...but at this age he LOVED it.
