I'm just full of questions lately.
Currently my son attends a public K3 program where he goes to school Mon-Thurs from about 9-11:30. We can send him to K4 at the same school, same hours, same teacher and basically the same curriculum next year. I'm not sure that I like that they teach the same things over again as he's starting to read and I'd like there to be some more focus on that for him. What I do like is that he likes this school, likes the teacher and hey, it's "free."
After next year this school will be closed and we'll be looking at other options for all of our children. There is a Catholic school nearby which offers an all day K4 program. I toured the school, met the teacher and principal and loved everything about it, except that I'm not sure about it being all day and it's spendy. Additionally, once we send our son there I feel we're obligated to send all of our children to private school and that expense is going to just keep growing.
So, which is the right thing to do? Send him back to the same school, save some money and hey, he's only 4 so what's the big deal? Or, send him to the private school that he will probably end up going to anyway the following year and where I know he'll get more individual attention and learning?
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
Re: Half-day or full-day K4?
Is k4 the same as pre-kindergarten? That would be the biggest issue for me. SO......after next year, is he going to Kindergarten? If so, I would personally not be happy with the program he is in right now because I would want a kindergarten prep class (pre-k) with different curriculum and curriculum that will prepare him for Kindergarten.
If he isn't going to Kindergarten the following year, I think you can stay at the same school. If he is going to Kindergarten the following year, I would make the switch.
GL! DS1 is going to pre-k next year and all of these school decisions are making me crazy! SO expensive and since we are holding him back a year we have to pay for an "extra" year of school and find a program that will keep him challenged.
