Separation anxiety...already?

Is it possible for my LO to have separation anxiety at such a young age?  No one can calm him down, put him to bed or feed him except me or he goes crazy!!!  How can I break him of this.  Last night I was upstairs for a while getting some things done, DH was down stairs with the boys and Greyson was screaming his head off, as soon as I came downstairs and he could see me he stopped.  I was thinking of calling the pedi to talk to her about it, Leland could care less who's with him.

Re: Separation anxiety...already?

  • Yes and no.

Harry had "attachments" very early on - around 3 months.  He was super attached to dh and his DC teacher.  But the attachments has changed throughout time.  Mommy was hot for a long time, now daddy's back :)

But this is nothing like the separation anxiety that he has.  That he didn't develop until he was 6 months old.

  • DD was like this. I think it had something to do with the fact that she associated nursing with comfort. It was so hard for me to be gone for any length of time. It got much better after about 10-12 weeks, although she's still a mamas girl. She did have reflux so her improvement could have been because we finally started her on some meds for that as well. I know how difficult it can be... Just hang in there! Talking to the pedi may be a good idea... Ours was always very reassuring and helpful.

  • DD was fussy for me, but I think it was hunger; she associated me with food.  It was a rough first few months once she realized mommy = nipple = food.  I honestly don't think she was full enough and I should have supplemented with bottled breastmilk that I had.  Could it be that he is hungry?  Long shot but just throwing it out there.

I don't think he's hungry.  He normally doesn't finish a bottle and he normally ends up spitting up a good amount.  He just seems so miserable all the time.  His brother is all smiles and giggles and Greyson is either crying, sleeping, or scowling.  I'm so afraid something is wrong with him!
