shopping poll

Re: shopping poll

  • I chose SS, because I have not been stuck behind someone using eleventy billion coupons.  I'm sure the day is coming, though.
  • No but I totally freak out when I see someone write a check! SUPER ANNOYING! Get a damn debit card already!

  • I said SS because it depends on whether the person is organized or not.  If they're rummaging through the bottom of their purse because they think they *may* have a coupon for something on their list, yeah, annoying.  If they have their sh!t in order, I'm cool with it.

I will say the time I was the most annoyed while shopping ever was when I got stuck behind a woman at Walmart (ew) who had an overflowing cart of groceries.  I didn't think it was that bad, though, until her sister (I think) came up with ANOTHER overflowing cart.  Some of the stuff was WIC, some was food stamps and some they were just buying.  After taking forever sorting and trying to figure out which thing went for what, everything had to be put on hold when they got in a fight with the cashier over they type of cheese they could get with their assistance check card.  Apparently gouda isn't eligible.  So, I had to wait while they went alllllll the way to the opposite back corner of the store to get the proper cheese.  I wanted to cry.  This particular Walmart is really poorly run, so there weren't enough cashiers as it was and I really couldn't move to another line -- they were all really long.  So annoying.

OMG, me too.  Especially in the fast checkout. It's no longer fast if you're writing a check.

  • Old folks with checks make me want to scream.   NO CHECKS please.

    Yes, I am prejudiced.

  • SS: Only if they're using a shitton and they won't scan or they're the kind the cashier has to write the amount in.

  • This probably makes me sound like a total shiithead but I hate it more when I see someone whip out WIC checks.

No, you hoars, I don't care that they get WIC. I think it a great program actually.

I just hate that the process is so antiquated. The clerk has to call up a manger to individually scan the individually signed checks... there always seems to be some issue, someone took the wrong kind of juice or something...ends up taking forEVER.

I wish they would give them a damn WIC debit card thingy like people have for foodstamps- seems much simpler.

Ditto--in fact I have not seen anyone use coupons in recent memory--guess that's the nice thing about living urban. Most people are walking/biking home & only buy a few things.

This is exactly what I was going to say!  And I feel so bad for the customer because you know they have to be embarassed at the fact that there are now five people in line behind them seeing what they can and cannot purchase.

  • Tonight I was in a rush and got stuck behind someone using a coupon for basically every item in her order. And the cashier at target couldn't figure out how to apply some of them. Then she was arguing about a sale sign. Since I was already in a rush *that* annoyed me, especially since she was moving really slowly with the coupons (and just in general). Otherwise good for people who are better at saving money than I am.

    This was my thought exactly!

  • I don't, but I never go shopping when I'm in a rush.  If I did I would forget half my list. It is also inevitable that I pick the slowest line in the store, so i learned my lesson a long time ago! I get more abboyed with the teenage cashiers that can't figure out your change unless the register tells them what it should be,

    No, I don't. :)

    How is the couponing going?

  • The only thing that annoys me is when the person in front of me has a coupon for something that I bought and I never saw that coupon!!
  • Ditto the check writing thing!

I wouldn't get upset for using a few coupons. If it was 100 coupons, I'd be annoyed...though it depends on the day and how my children are behaving.

  • I hate that cashiers in a rite aid/cvs have no idea how to process a formula check.  If formula is on sale, I'll buy it, and usually stack with a store coupon, formula coupon and a formula check (if I have them).  But it's always painful because the cashiers just NEVER know how to use the formula check, and then need to call a manager, and the line is backing up behind me of people who are just buying one quick thing and are definitely shooting daggers at me.  But then, I figure this is what I need to endure to save $10 plus on a can of formula, so they can just suck it.

    How is the couponing going?

its going GREAT so far I've got: 2 bottles of Niveah body wash, .97/ea. 4 bottle of KC Masterpiece & 3 bottle of sweet baby rays bbq sauce for free. 4 bottles of Suave body wash, .67/ea. 4 bars of suave deoderant, .04/ea. 3 tubes of Colgate toothpaste, free.4 pks of oscar meyer beef hot dogs (10 per pack) for ?.50/ec., 2 pack of kraft american cheese slices .70/each. 2 Air Wicks fresh sprayer's, .98/ec. 10 boxes of (35ct) bandaids for free, 2-4pk disp. razors, free. 2 energy/protein bars, free.

So... I'm doing pretty good for only doing this for about 2 1/2 weeks :)

  • I find checks FAR more annoying than coupons.

I also hate people who use credit cards but don't swipe them immediately and hang out by the cashier.  Look, idiots, get your ass up by the card reader, swipe it and start putting your sh*t in your cart.  THANK YOU.

(unless they have formula checks because then you do have to wait)

Sounds like you're doing great!  Just remember the sales always come back around, so if you can't get out to get something, you'll get it next time.  Don't forget about rainchecks too!

  • Check writing is annoying enough, but why do these dinosaur check writers insist on also standing there at the checkout while they record their check amount in the register? For fvck sake, MOVE IT.

I own a business and do not take checks but every once in a while someone writes a d@mn check because they have no other means of payment.  Makes me stabby.
