Flying- stroller and carseat

We have a Chicco travel system. I'm flying to Colorado tomorrow. I know I can being the stroller to the gate and they give it back when you land. But what about the car seat? Do you check it like baggage at the ticket counter or is it just like the stroller- it goes with you up to the gate? Tia sorry typing in the phone...

  • You check it at the gate along with the car seat. It's a piece of cake.

  • You can do either.

  • Did you buy a seat for the baby?  If so, you can take it on and strap it in like normal.  If not, I would assume you check it.

You might want a bag to wrap around the seat (like a trash bag or something less klassy) since the undercarriage of the plane is pretty nasty.

I was able to roll LO right up to the gate in her stroller (with carseat attached). You'll board first (make sure to take advantage of this....it takes way longer to get settled with your LO in tow) and there will be someone at the end of the walkway right before you get onto the plane that will take the carseat and stroller for you. I flew Delta and they even had a plastic bag that they put them into. Super easy.
  • Check it at the gate, definitely. Also, when you check it, ask if there are any extra seats on the plane. If there are, you can take it on the plane and she can have her own seat! If you're flying an airline other than southwest, you may want to talk to customer service or at the ticket counter so you can get a seat next to an empty seat.

  • FYI - if there isn't a person waiting at the gate before you board make it a point to notify either a flight attendant or wait til you get someone to notice you.  Our stroller was left on the walkway ramp on our last flight home last year because we were told to just set it there (by the person who takes your ticket), and someone would put it under.  Well they didn't.  It was delievered to our apartment the next day (we had the last flight of the night and get came on the first the following morning), but was scary thinking it was gone forever.
