Anyone have your doc note that your LOs kidneys on u/s are enlarged? We saw MFM today and she noted that they were enlarged. Apparently anything under 4mm is ok, 6-8mm is more concerning but normally requires no treatment after birth and then above 8mm requires additional follow-up after birth. We were at 4mm. The MFM went over everything and noted that this could be a soft marker for a chromosal issue, but no other markers have been identified. The MFM also stated that it could just be from the progesterone in my body and enlarges the vessels. We declined the amnio because at this point if there was an issue we wouldn't terminate. I was honestly surprised we were even offered one. I go back in 3 weeks for another scan.

Re: Enlarged Kidneys - anyone?
Yes, well kind of..on LO's A/S the dr noticed that his right kidney was quite dilated and sent us to an MFM for a level 2 US. I've had repeat scans every 4 weeks and they've been monitoring his progress. Just at this last US they were able to see that he more than likely has a duplex collecting system in the upper part of his right kidney (2 ureters and a dilated kidney and dilated ureter and possibly a narrowing/blockage in one of those 2 ureters)
He will have to have one of either two surgeries depending on certain test results after he is born, but prognosis should be good after that.
Let me know if I can help with any more!!

This happened to my sister in law who had her baby in March. I'm not sure what her measurements were. The baby was born without complications, but they had to see a doctor after for follow-up. At their last appointment they decided that she is going to need surgery, but expect everything to be fine.
T&Ps that it's just the progesterone! *hugs*

We went for a followup scan a couple weeks ago and everything was fine - both kidneys had decreased in size, one to below 4mm and the other to just above. We have another followup scan scheduled for 33 weeks just to be sure, but the doctor is very pleased at this point.
Apparently it's common in little boys and usually corrects itself by 33 weeks. But if by some chance it doesn't, the specialist reassured me that it's very treatable and not a danger to the baby if caught early on and monitored.
Lots of thoughts and prayers for you guys. I hopenyou get some great news too at your followup scan!
Thank you for sharing!!!! Sounds like you received similar information to what we did which is reassuring. We go back in 3 weeks so I'm hoping that we will be under the 4mm mark then. Nothing like added to a PGALer worries.

I hear ya - when the doctor came in and told me, I nearly broke down into tears and then he felt awful for not giving me the good news first. He literally spent half an hour calming me down and reassuring me that it was ok.
My OB gave me the same info as well, which was extra reassuring.
And everything that I've found online says the same thing.
Please keep us/me posted - I hope that you guys (and am sure that you will) get some great news at that next scan!
