Test Results are Back

I wanted to have DD tested for allergies due to her severe eczema. Her ped wanted to wait until 12 mos but when she broke out in itchy hives and whelps last week I insisted. We tested for all food allergies and common seasonal allergies. Test results are back. She is allergic to:

Cats and dogs (we have one of each, both inside)

egg whites (2)

chicken (2)

dairy (3)

wheat (3)

peanuts (4)

Ped didn't think we needed to see an allergiest but I made an appt anyway. I have about 3 months of milk in the freezer. I guess I need to dump it. I have gone dairy and peanut free but there is no way I can pump what she drinks now. I went out and got some Soy Formula to supplement with. I did not expect so many allergies. I thought maybe gluten and berries. Neither DH or I have any. We are trying to find new homes for our pets. I feel so bad. Juliana LOVES our cat and I have my dog for 10 years. Thank goodness we have this board now. Looks like I will be hanging out here now.

I would speak to the allergist before you make any drastic changes. Peanut at 4 is a definite no but some things that are 2/3s could be fine for her. As for your milk I would def talk to the dr before dumping. GL

Like the other poster said, Try not to rush to any conclusions before another appointment with a specialist, and more testing.

Good for you for going with your gut and had her tested!!!!!!!!  I wish i did, so this way we wouldn't have ended up in the ER.

Was she tested for soy?  I had to dump over 300oz when i found out and i cried like a little baby. I also didn't have enough for the remainder 4 months so i had to supplement about 8 oz a day with formula.

When i started giving my son soy formula, he became allergic to it (mildly) after about a month.  His first test results didn't show a soy allergy but a month after i gave him soy formula, he would always break out in hives and my doc said that he may now be allergic to soy b/c we introduced it... So we switched to one of those expensive (non-soy, non-dairy) formulas. I figured since it was only one bottle a day, i can deal with the price.

So if you noticed a sudden rash or something, i would switch the formula just to test.  I think it's 60% of ppl that are allergic to dairy are also allergic to soy.

Again -great that you went with your gut!

DD would barely drink soy formula. The pediatric allergist recommended Althera, by Nestle. I think it's relatively new and has better taste than the expensive non-soy, non-dairy formulas.

    GL!
