was your DS really reluctant?

I need some tips for a reluctant DS:(  I read that if you had to push him, he was not ready to be potty trained, but my DS is the kind of kid that has to be pushed a little for a lot of things, but f you give him that push he finds out he's just fine-- like with trying new foods or new activities.  He will now at least sit on a potty sometimes, but has never peed. He does not like the kinds of things most people use as rewards-- candy, sweets and such.  I don't want to bribe him, but he's 2, so I guess the hope of intrinsic motivation is pretty much nill here:)
