Hey Hey
I know we have a lot of check ins already, but I know a lot of us have catnappers and some of us thought it would be good to have a thread where we could talk about any progress being made on the nap front + tips and tricks.
So if anyone posts here, I'll start doing it every Tuesday. )
I'll start...
Yesterday was atrocious! Ever since we came back from our trip to MT, naps have been bad, but yesterday they got even shorter!! 20 minutes. One lasted 30, but that was it. Finally, in the evening, I let her cry for a few minutes when she woke up and she miraculously fell back to sleep for about another hour. )
A theory I'm testing right now is that she needs to be awake for longer stretches. There was a thread on here a week or so ago and people were saying their LOs were staying up for about 3 hours.
This morning LO only made it to 2.5 before getting really fussy. So I put her down. (I always read a short story first.) She was making little noises for about 15 mins but then fell asleep. She woke up after 30 minutes (ug!) but then quickly fell back to sleep on her own! () About 40 minutes later she woke up again and then did something she's NEVER done before: fell back to sleep after a 2nd waking!! So all tolled, she slept for almost 2hrs! Incredible!!
How are your catnappers doing?
Re: *** Short Nappers Check In ***
Yesterday was kinda rough. I think mainly due to the heat. I'm hoping he naps better today at daycare.
I need to talk to his pedi at his 6 month about his sleeping. He generally gets good sleep at night (9-10 hours straight), so I know that's part of the reason he doesn't nap much during the day.
He generally goes 2-3 hours between naps. I have found he naps well if he's had a really active awake time. Like not just playing but working on crawling and sitting and active stuff like that. So, as much as possible, we're down on the floor playing.

for about a month or so now griffins naps have been terrible. he used to sleep so long in his swing and now it just doesnt work. he might nap for 10-30minutes.
welllll, for the past week i've been rolling him on his tummy to nap and patting his bum for a few minutes and he'll now sleep anywhere from 1-3hrs. i put him on our bed so i can lie down next to him and close my eyes for a bit too. he used to HATE being on his tummy and cried whenever i tried this before (back when other bumpies said they had tummy sleepers) but i just tried it now cause i was out of ideas and it works! at night i still put him on his back though.
Grace's naps are hit and miss, but mostly "misses". I think her worst day at daycare she napped a total of 30 minutes, and was in meltdown mode as soon as we got her home. I can typically get her to stay down for 20-30 minutes at a time on the weekends, and that's considered a good nap! It doesn't seem to matter if she's on her back, side or belly. I don't have a single tip or trick to share, but am hoping for some good nuggets from others.

Wow my LO has never napped for 3 hrs - that's amazing!!
She's been putting herself on her tummy for months now but it doesn't seem to lengthen her naps.
I try the bum patting sometimes too.

You know, maybe I need to start just putting him on his tummy for naps. It's how he sleeps at night and seems to be his preferred sleeping style.
I just suck at that put down because usually I rock him to sleep, so he's on his back or side. And he definitely does NOT like me rolling him over. I guess I need more practice.
I should probably talk with daycare, too. Just to see how they're doing it.

It doesn't matter if we keep her up for 1 hour or 3. She naps for 30 minutes literally on the dot. I've tried the tummy. No go. It's pretty frustrating. I ordered HSHHC and am waiting for it so hopefully that has some good tips. She sleeps well at night, usually. Well, now I've probably jinxed myself.
for naps i still hold him and rock him til hes drowsy and then ill lay him backside down on the bed. then i quickly but gently roll him on his tummy. his face is usually into the bed so i have to turn his head too lol. it definitely takes some practice!
ha! i was never able to do this..he always woke right up...like "nice try mom". he only started belly sleeping once he could roll over both ways on his own. he doesn't show much of a preference...side, back, tummy...hes an equal opportunity sleeper.
LOL i can just picture that facial expression
