Cloth Diapering

perplexed

I am perplexed.  My Lo has a persistent rash and I can't figure out what it's from.  It will get better at night.  At night we have been putting her in flats with a couple hemp.  During the day I put her in an unbleached prefold and the rash seems to get a bit worse.  Could she be allergic to an unbleached prefold?

Re: perplexed

  • Could it be yeast?

How often do you change her?

  • Usually she will go the whole night without a change or sometimes be changed once.  During the day I change her at least every 2 hours...it's probably a bit more.  I don't think it's yeast.  I just find it odd that it always clears up during the night.  I would think if it's yeast that it would get worse at night.

  • She shouldn't be reacting to the prefold unless maybe not all the detergent is getting rinsed out (since flats have less thickness of material, they're easier to rinse).  You could try adding an extra rinse at the end of the cycle.  The other thing that comes to mind is heat rash.  What kind of cover are you using?  If you're using something like PUL, you might want to try a breathable cover, or even going coverless for a while (though that's harder with prefolds/flats, especially if you're using a snappi).  If there's enough of a temperature increase during the day, she could be reacting to that (which is why it would go away at night).  Though, now I've said that, I don't know how long it takes for a heat rash to go away.

  • What are you using to wipe? She could be allergic to that. If she's going long strectches at night without being wiped, it could clear up.

It could be that although I already do about two extra rinses.  I'm wondering if perhaps it is my soap not liking my water.

We just use water so I don't think it's wipe solution.
